Premier League

13 H Sat 24 Nov 15:00 Wolves 0 Huddersfield    2 (6’, 74’)

Aaron Mooy's double helped Huddersfield claim a deserved victory at Wolves to lift them off the bottom of the Premier League.  The Terriers had arrived at Molineux with the worst goal-scoring record in the division - having mustered just six goals from their opening 12 games - but Mooy's first goal of the campaign gave them an early lead as he placed his effort from Erik Durm's cut-back. The Australia midfielder then secured the points for the visitors in the second period with a curling free-kick, beating home goalkeeper Rui Patricio at his near post.  Ruben Neves clearly turned away from the ball, not

Wolves, who looked out of sorts during the first half, did threaten to equalise after the break. However, goal-line technology showed that a Raul Jimenez header had just been cleared in time by Huddersfield midfielder Philip Billing - all but an agonising 1.8cm of the ball had crossed the line.

Huddersfield spark into life

After a dismal start of 10 games without a victory to their second season in the Premier League, David Wagner's Huddersfield side appear to have now sparked into life. This win is their second in three matches, in a period when they have collected seven points from a possible nine on offer. Wagner took his side to Marbella in the south of Spain during the international break and at times there was a sunshine feel to their football in the West Midlands. Mooy's opening goal was reward for a wonderful move down the left involving Billing and Durm, and their slick passing allowed them to establish an early rhythm that the hosts struggled to contain. The only complaint was that Huddersfield did not confirm their superiority earlier than Mooy's second goal. Terence Kongolo spurned a chance after a perfectly executed, pre-planned corner routine, and Patricio also saved a Steve Mounie header that was directed straight at him. Alex Pritchard twice found himself in excellent shooting positions, and was denied on the second occasion by Wolves' Portugal goalkeeper after a glorious interchange between Mooy and Billing on the right. Mooy's coup de grace, from 20 yards out, was no more than they deserved and it ensured they are unbeaten in three matches for the first time this calendar year.

Wolves fail to respond

Since their promotion to the Premier League Wolves have forged a reputation as a passing team, but also as a second-half team. Prior to this fixture, 10 of Wanderers' 12 goals had arrived after the interval, allowing Nuno Espirito Santo's side to collect four victories from the opening 12 games. That resilience has also contributed to creditable draws against both Manchester clubs, as well as Arsenal in their last Premier League encounter. But this fixture highlighted that their capacity to recover is far from guaranteed in the top flight. Having been hindered by a series of errant passes, a half-time revision of tactics and the introduction of Morgan Gibbs-White and Adama Traore did allow Wolves to build some momentum after the break.

The result sees Huddersfield climb to 14th in the table, while Wolves remain in 11th.

TEAM NEWS

Wolves will be without Jonny Otto, who has been ruled out for six weeks with a knee injury suffered playing for Spain. But fellow wing-back Matt Doherty has recovered from the facial injury that saw him miss Ireland's last two games.

Huddersfield's Chris Lowe is out with a shoulder injury, while Jon Gorenc Stankovic is set to replace Mathias Jorgensen, who is banned for one game. All six Huddersfield players who went away on international duty have returned unscathed.

MOTD COMMENTATOR'S NOTES

@ConorMcNamaraIE: Nuno Espirito Santo has named 10 ever-presents in his Premier League line-ups but Jonny Otto's injury for Spain means at least one refresh is now required. Wolves began the campaign with one defeat in 10 games in all competitions. However, the past month has seen three defeats and a draw in their last four.

By contrast, Huddersfield have shown green shoots of recovery recently after an opening two and a half months that smacked of second-season syndrome. After starting with 11 winless games, Huddersfield can now go three games unbeaten for the first time this calendar year.

VIEW FROM THE DUGOUT

Wolves head coach Nuno Espirito Santo: "Huddersfield are a good team. I think they've improved with their last performances and results. We know how hard it's going to be, they have their own idea and shape."

Huddersfield head coach David Wagner: "I have never spoken about targets out of the next three or five games. We go to every team and against every opponent to do our best and collect points. We are aware that Wolves are anything but a normal promoted team. It is a very good side, but we go to do our best and try to win. We will not get anything if we are not at our highest level."

LAWRO'S PREDICTION

Wolves should have too much for a Huddersfield side that have mustered two points and four goals from their five away games this season. Prediction: 2-0

MATCH FACTS

Head-to-head

Huddersfield have won 10 of the past 12 league meetings, winning 1-0 on each of the last three occasions. This is the sides' first top-flight encounter since 1972.

Wolverhampton Wanderers

Wolves have earned just one point from the last 12 available.

They could lose three consecutive home league fixtures for the first time since February 2017. Wolves have scored only two first-half league goals this season, fewer than any other side in the top flight. All four of Wolves' Premier League wins this season have come against teams currently below them in the table - but they have also taken points off Manchester City, Manchester United and Arsenal. Raul Jimenez has been directly involved in seven goals in his 12 Premier League appearances.

Huddersfield Town

Huddersfield have taken four points from two games to more than double their points tally for the season. The Terriers haven't scored more than once in any of their past 22 Premier League matches, managing just nine goals in total. Huddersfield are without a win in their last 10 Premier League away games (D5, L5). They have conceded 14 first-half goals this season - the most in the division. Christopher Schindler has made 49 Premier League appearances and could become the first player to reach 50 for Huddersfield

Arsenal deny Wolves a famous win - Gunners almost pay for another slow start.

Substitute Henrikh Mkhitaryan scored a late equaliser to stretch Arsenal's unbeaten run to 16 matches and deny Wolverhampton Wanderers a famous win at the Emirates. Ivan Cavaleiro's close-range finish looked like securing the Black Country club their most eye-catching victory since returning to the Premier League this season.

The visitors pounced on an error by Granit Xhaka, Cavaleiro and Raul Jiminez exchanging passes before the former tapped home. Lucas Torreira and Hector Bellerin both went close to equalising while leading scorer Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang hit the post before Mkhitaryan's 86th minute cross went straight past Rui Patricio.  In a thrilling contest, Wolves almost snatched it in stoppage time when 18-year-old substitute Morgan Gibbs-White hit the bar.  The fifth-placed Gunners are three points behind fourth-placed Tottenham while Wolves remain 11th in the table.

Despite Mkhitaryan's equaliser, a cross which somehow found its way past Patricio, this was two points dropped as far as Arsenal were concerned. Having started the day six points off the top, they go into the international break trailing leaders Manchester City by eight points after another slow start. When Cavaleiro struck to leave Wolves fans dreaming of a first win on Arsenal soil for 39 years, Arsenal's defence was busy conducting an inquest into why they had conceded the first goal for the fourth successive Premier League match. Against Leicester they roared to back to win comfortably. Against Wolves it was different as the visitors proved stubborn at the back before Mkhitaryan struck. Having drawn against Liverpool and Crystal Palace in their last two league games, the Gunners are now without a top-flight win in three matches - proof there is much for Emery to work on despite his team's unbeaten run. Alex Iwobi, starting a league game for the first time since 28 October, lasted until half-time before he was replaced while Mesut Ozil was also taken off as under-par Arsenal struggled against their vibrant opponents. Arsenal's first match after the break is away at Bournemouth before back-to-back top-flight matches against Tottenham and Manchester United. Emery will hope his side have returned to winning ways before they head for Wembley for the north London derby on 2 December.

TEAM NEWS

Arsenal's Danny Welbeck suffered a serious ankle injury against Sporting Lisbon, while Stephan Lichtsteiner is also out, having been forced off with a muscle problem in Thursday's game.  Nacho Monreal is nearing a return from a hamstring injury, although this match may come too soon for him. Midfielder Matteo Guendouzi returns after completing a one-game domestic suspension. Diogo Jota is fit for Wolves after recovering from a hamstring problem. Midfielder Morgan Gibbs-White impressed as a substitute against Tottenham last weekend but it remains to be seen whether the 18-year-old will be handed a first Premier League start.

MOTD COMMENTATOR'S NOTES

Martin Fisher: The Arsenal of last season probably would have lost that game against Liverpool. The fact that they stuck with it and grabbed a late equaliser is seen by many as another sign of their steady improvement under Unai Emery. However, that positive outlook only goes so far and doesn't lessen expectation. Anything other than a win over Wolves will be greeted with huge disappointment.  The Premier League new boys are suffering their first blip of the campaign. Their late rally at home to Spurs was not quite sufficient to avoid their third successive defeat, and their rotten record against Arsenal suggests that run might get worse before it gets better.

VIEW FROM THE DUGOUT

Arsenal head coach Unai Emery: "Against Liverpool I think we had more in the 90 of the game. Our idea is to repeat matches with this pace over 90. It is about the progress in the team. The progress is about continuing to create confidence and creating also tactically different ways to improve."

Wolves head coach Nuno Espirito Santo: "We're not in the best moment but we have to react to it. We reacted well from the bad performance against Watford, we didn't achieve the result against Brighton or Tottenham but we performed well. We don't think about the result first - no matter what, it's perform well, do your tasks and try to win."

LAWRO'S PREDICTION

Arsenal were very impressive again in their draw with Liverpool, and I am expecting more of the same this time around. Wolves have now lost three games in a row but, whatever happens here, I don't think they are in danger of slipping too far down the table - they have got too much quality for that. Prediction: 2-0

MATCH FACTS

Head-to-head

Arsenal are unbeaten in their last 19 league and cup games against Wolves.

Wolves' last win against the Gunners was 3-2 at Highbury in September 1979, when Andy Gray scored twice.  Arsenal have won seven of the eight Premier League meetings and have not been behind for a single minute. Wolves avoided defeat for the first time on their last trip to the Emirates, a 1-1 draw in December 2011.

All three of Wolves' Premier League goals against the Gunners have been scored via corners.

Arsenal

They are unbeaten in nine top-flight matches, winning seven in a row before drawing the last two. The Gunners have taken 59 points from a possible 63 in their last 21 league games at home to newly-promoted sides (W19, D2). They have won eight points from losing positions this term, more than any other Premier League side prior to the latest round of games. Arsenal are one of three clubs yet to lead a Premier League game at half-time this season, along with Wolves and Cardiff (prior to the Bluebirds' match on Saturday). Alexandre Lacazette has been directly involved in 16 goals in his 18 Premier League starts at the Emirates Stadium, scoring 12 and assisting four.

Wolverhampton Wanderers

After a six-game unbeaten run (W4, D2), Wolves have lost their last three Premier League games. Wolves are winless in their last 25 Premier League matches against sides starting the day in the top half of the table (D10, L15). Nuno Espirito Santo's men have scored just three away league goals this term - only Cardiff, with two, have netted fewer. However, Wolves have conceded just four times on their travels, a record bettered only by Manchester City and Chelsea.

Tottenham Hotspur survived a stirring Wolverhampton Wanderers fightback to go level on points with third-placed Chelsea in the Premier League following a five-goal thriller at Molineux.

Having lost their last top-flight game against Manchester City at Wembley, Spurs established a 3-0 lead in the Black Country before Wolves hit back. Argentine midfielder Erik Lamela fired through the legs of keeper Rui Patricio to give Mauricio Pochettino's side the lead before Brazilian Lucas Moura headed the second from Kieran Trippier's delicious cross. Harry Kane netted his first league goal for five weeks before 20-year-old Spurs defender Juan Foyth conceded two penalties on his Premier League debut - Ruben Neves and Raul Jimenez scoring from the spot. At 2-0, Jimenez had an effort disallowed for offside - television replays showing the officials had got it wrong and that the goal should have stood. While Spurs climb above north London rivals Arsenal into fourth spot, Wolves drop to 11th after a third straight defeat.

It was a debut to forget for Foyth - this was Tottenham's fifth fixture in 15 days and for over an hour there appeared to be little sign of fatigue from Pochettino's side as they overcame the early loss of Moussa Dembele to injury to sail into a 3-0 lead. Belgium midfielder Dembele's 250th Spurs appearance lasted a little over one minute before he suffered what appeared to be an ankle injury after Helder Costa fell into him following a challenge by Ben Davies. Spurs were already without Dele Alli - one of several players rested before Tuesday's must-win Champions League Group B home game with PSV Eindhoven. However, there was a real menace about the visitors as Kane forced a decent save from Patricio before an unmarked Lamela opened the scoring after finding space inside the penalty area. Two minutes and 54 seconds later it was 2-0 after Moura was left unmarked to head home before Kane increased the lead after reacting first when Patricio kept out his original attempt. But Foyth's late mistakes made for an unnecessarily nervy finish. Handed a start in place of the rested Davinson Sanchez, Foyth clearly fouled Jiminez before pushing Wolves defender Jonny 10 minutes later, becoming the first player to give away two penalties in the same Premier League game since Phil Jagielka in 2016. Hugo Lloris dived the wrong way for both penalties but Tottenham held on to secure a sixth top-flight win in seven attempts away from Wembley.

What's next?

Another stern test awaits Wolves when they travel to face Arsenal at the Emirates next Sunday (16:30 GMT). Tottenham are back in action on Tuesday when they host PSV Eindhoven in a Champions League Group B game at Wembley (20:00 GMT)

TEAM NEWS

Wolves boss Nuno Espirito Santo says winger Diogo Jota will not be available for Saturday's game. The Molineux side named the same starting line-up for their first nine league games this term before bringing in Adama Traore for Jota last weekend.

Tottenham's Eric Dier and Victor Wanyama have been ruled out through injury and are not expected to return until after the international break.Spurs remain without defenders Danny Rose and Jan Vertonghen.

MOTD COMMENTATOR'S NOTES

@SimonBrotherton: For Spurs it's a welcome chance to get away from the gridiron surface at Wembley and play on a decent pitch following their defeat at home to Manchester City on Monday. They enjoyed a 3-1 win at West Ham in the League Cup during the week, but are likely to find Wolves to be more stubborn opponents at Molineux.

Nuno Espirito Santo's side don't concede many goals but don't score many either.

They managed to lose at Brighton last week despite being the better side and registering 25 attempts on goal. It's the first time they've lost successive games during his tenure and like Spurs they will be keen to get back to winning ways after making a strong start to the season.

VIEW FROM THE DUGOUT

Wolves head coach Nuno Espirito Santo: "Tottenham are very competitive. What I admire is what I see on the pitch and I see a very good team. "I know him [Mauricio Pochettino] and I admire him. The quality of the work they've been doing is amazing. The core of the squad, the amount of success they have had."

Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino: "I think we're so close to getting the last level, but we need to have that patience that makes us stronger. I think we're strong enough to sort out all the problems and arrive, and in the end to achieve what the club and fans deserve, and in the end all we want to achieve one day is to win trophies."

LAWRO'S PREDICTION

I was surprised that Wolves were beaten by Brighton last weekend, but that was another lesson for them about life in the top flight - and how you can still be beaten even if you have the better of a game. It will be interesting to see if Wolves manage to have the majority of play and possession in this game, and how they approach it.  Prediction: 0-2

MATCH FACTS

Head-to-head - Tottenham have lost just four times in 26 matches against Wolves, winning 16 and drawing six.

Wolves were the last newly-promoted side to win both league games against Spurs in a single season, doing so in 2009-10.

Tottenham have won four of their last six top-flight games at Molineux (D1, L1).

Wolves have failed to win any of their last 24 Premier League matches against sides in the top half of the table (D10, L14).

They have only scored one first-half league goal this season.

Nuno Espirito Santo's side have scored just 8% of their shots (excluding blocks) in the Premier League this term. Only Crystal Palace, Southampton and Huddersfield have poorer records.  Wolves have conceded nine league goals - the only top-flight teams to have let in fewer this season (prior to the latest round of games) are Manchester City, Liverpool, Chelsea and Tottenham.

Tottenham's loss against Manchester City ended a run of four Premier League wins, and three successive clean sheets.

They have won five of their six Premier League games on the road this campaign, losing only at Watford.

Since the start of 2014-15, Harry Kane has scored 25 Premier League goals against newly-promoted sides - six more than any other player.

Tottenham are unbeaten in their last 38 Premier League games against newly-promoted opposition, winning 35 of those games. Their last defeat against a top-flight newcomer came away to Wolves in 2010.

10 A Sat 27 Oct 15:00 Brighton Lost 1-0 (Murray)

Glenn Murray scored his 100th goal for Brighton to help his side record a third consecutive Premier League win, with victory over Wolves. Murray, who was a doubt for the game after suffering concussion last weekend, turned Bruno's scuffed shot in from close range shortly after half-time.

It is the first time Brighton have won three consecutive games in the top-flight since 1981. But, Wolves dominated most of the game and were unfortunate not to come away with at least a point. They came close through Matt Doherty, who shot just wide of the post from 10 yards early on, and could have had a first-half penalty when another effort from Doherty hit the raised arm of Jose Izquierdo.  Duffy headed off the outside of the post at the end of the first half for Brighton but Murray's goal was the hosts' only shot on target in the game. Wolves pressed hard for an equaliser in a remarkable finish with Brighton's goalkeeper saving brilliantly from Ryan Bennett in stoppage time. Mat Ryan also dived low to stop Ruben Neves' strike from distance while Doherty had another chance blocked wide.

Brighton climb to 11th with the win while Wolves stay ninth.

It was announced that former Wolves and England Manager, Glenn Hoddle, had been taken seriously ill.  We wish him well.

Kick Off - First Half begins.

Brighton's top scorer Glenn Murray is fit to play after suffering concussion against Newcastle last weekend. Davy Propper and Pascal Gross remain out with ankle injuries but Bruno has recovered from a back spasm.

Wolves head coach Nuno Espirito Santo has named an unchanged side for the opening nine league matches but hinted the defeat by Watford could be the catalyst for changes. Adama Traore and Ivan Cavaleiro are among those pushing for a first start.

MOTD COMMENTATOR'S NOTES

@Wilsonfooty: It has been 37 years since Brighton last won three consecutive top-flight games, but they could achieve that this weekend. Chris Hughton's side have held their nerve in tight back-to-back encounters against West Ham and Newcastle, and they will fancy their chances against a Wolves side looking to recover from their worst performance of the season in losing at home to Watford. That may have been a bit of a wake-up call to a team which seemed to have adapted seamlessly to Premier League football. It may even prompt Nuno Espirito Santo to change his starting line-up for the first time this season.

VIEW FROM THE DUGOUT

Brighton & Hove Albion manager Chris Hughton on Wolves: "I think they thoroughly deserve the points they have got. They've obviously had some big results, and I think they're a team that will do well this season. Their strength has been the core of the team that's stayed together and they have good offensive options."

Wolves head coach Nuno Espirito Santo: "I expect a good reaction I think, as ever. Every time after a bad result and a bad performance, we have to bounce back first of all then worry about our tasks, the game plan. I think we have to perform better than we did last season. I think that's the right mentality to have. We have to improve, realising what we did wrong and work on the training pitch."

LAWRO'S PREDICTION

Brighton are normally strong at home but they could be without Glenn Murray, who suffered a concussion against Newcastle, and, bearing that in mind, I think the points will be shared.  Prediction: 1-1

MATCH FACTS

Head-to-head Brighton have won all six previous top-flight meetings.

The Seagulls have lost one of the last eight encounters in all competitions, winning three and drawing four. Wolves have only scored one goal in their last four games against Brighton.

Brighton & Hove Albion - Brighton could win three consecutive top-flight matches for the first time since a run of four in May 1981. They are also vying to equal the club top-flight record of three consecutive clean sheets. The Seagulls have won 36 of their 51 Premier League points at home (70.6%), the third-highest percentage in the competition's history. Chris Hughton has only lost one of his eight previous meetings against Wolves as a manager, winning three and drawing four.

Wolverhampton Wanderers

Wolves suffered a first top-flight defeat in seven matches against Watford last weekend. Despite that defeat, Wolves' 15 points from nine Premier League games this season is the most by a newly-promoted team since West Brom also secured 15 in 2010-11.  Wolves are the only team in Europe's top-five leagues who have yet to make a change to their starting XI in the league this season. They have only scored one first-half goal this season. Raul Jimenez, with two goals, is the only Wolves player to have scored more than once in the league this season.

Two goals in 58 first-half seconds saw a dominant Watford seal their first win since September and end Wolves' six-game unbeaten run. A rocket shot from Etienne Capoue opened the scoring for the Hornets following a tentative start at Molineux, before a slick finish from Roberto Pereyra doubled their lead moments later.

It was a minute that knocked the wind out of the Wolves players' sails on what proved to be a frustrating afternoon for the hosts, who were fielding an unchanged starting line-up for the ninth successive game. The defeat was their first at home this season, while Watford ended a five-game winless streak. Little could separate the sides in a drab opening 20 minutes before Capoue scored his second goal of the season, receiving the ball outside the area from Abdoulaye Doucoure and sending it flying through the legs of Wolves captain Conor Coady and past helpless keeper Rui Patricio. Most Watford fans had yet to sit back down before their side went two ahead, Pereyra delightfully dinking the ball over Patricio with the outside of his left boot. Wolves found another gear in the second half but were left exasperated as they struggled to convert their chances, with late efforts from Helder Costa and substitute Ivan Cavaleiro going begging.

MOTD COMMENTATOR'S NOTES

@SimonBrotherton: Both teams made a strong start to the season but while Watford have cooled off, newly-promoted Wolves continue to impress and have won four of their last five games.  Eight matches in, their 15-point haul represents the best start by a promoted side since Hull City's tally of 17 points achieved in the 2008-09 season. Naming the same starting XI for all eight games is a Premier League first.

Watford won their opening four games and counted Tottenham among their early scalps, but they haven't won any of the last four and conceded four at home to Bournemouth immediately before the international break.

VIEW FROM THE DUGOUT

Wolves head coach Nuno Espirito Santo: "The way the boys have been working since the beginning has allowed us to see the team is improving.  The expectations don't change. Now we think about tomorrow and the table doesn't mean anything to us at all. When they do well we say they do well and when they don't we work harder. We are the same group of people who want to go game-by-game."

Watford head coach Javi Gracia: "We got a very bad result (against Bournemouth), but we know it is only a game and we need to show all our desire, all our ambition in the next game. I expect the best of my players because they are showing me in all the training sessions the commitment and the ambition. I'm sure we are going to play a good game at Wolves."

LAWRO'S PREDICTION

I like the fact Wolves head coach Nuno Espirito Santo has named the same starting XI because they are playing really well and winning games.  It sounds a bit old-fashioned, but the more that a team plays together like that, the better the team gets. It seems to be working for Wolves at the moment anyway.  Prediction: 2-0

MATCH FACTS

Head-to-head

This is the first Premier League meeting - their only other top-flight clashes came in the 1983-84 season, with Wolves winning 5-0 at home and drawing 0-0 away. Eleven of the last 17 league meetings at Molineux have been draws, with Wolves winning five and losing just one.  Wolverhampton Wanderers - Wolves are unbeaten in a club record six Premier League matches (W4, D2). They haven't gone seven games without defeat in the top flight since March-April 1974.  They could win three consecutive top-flight fixtures for the first time since March 1980. Wolves could also earn three successive top-flight home victories for the first time in 38 years. Nuno Espirito Santo's side have only conceded one goal in their past seven games in all competitions. Their last eight Premier League goals have all come in the second half.

Watford are without a win in their last five league and cup matches, drawing two and losing three. They are one short of 50 Premier League wins. However, they have only won one of their last 15 Premier League away fixtures, drawing two and losing 12. Troy Deeney had a hand in both goals in Watford's last league match at Molineux, scoring one and setting up the other in a 2-2 draw in March 2015.

SAT 06 OCT 2018 Crystal Palace 0 Wolves 1 Doherty (56')

HT 0-0

Wolves set a new Premier League record by naming an unchanged starting XI for an eighth consecutive opening game.  Matt Doherty struck the only goal as Wolves extended their unbeaten Premier League run to six matches with victory over Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park. Raul Jimenez put Doherty through on 56 and the full-back was able to beat Wayne Hennessey at his near-post, despite the tight angle.

The home side began confidently in the first ever Premier League meeting between the two sides, but Wolves threatened on the counter and Jimenez forced Hennessey into action. Rui Patricio produced an excellent double save as Wolves held onto the win, first stopping Max Meyer's volley and then blocking Wilfried Zaha's follow-up as the hosts chased a first home goal of the campaign. Substitute Ivan Cavaleiro struck the bar late on as Wolves achieved their best run in the top flight since 1979, leaving Roy Hodgson's side with just one win in their past seven league games. Pic - in the pouring rain - Mark Stan and Jon and Anna Price of Wolves Women both from Mark F.

Kick Off

First Half begins.TEAM NEWS

Crystal Palace will again be without forward Christian Benteke, who has been out for more than a month with a knee injury.  Scott Dann and Connor Wickham are back in training but Saturday's game will come too soon.

Wolves could set a Premier League record by naming an unchanged starting XI in their opening eight matches. Winger Helder Costa came off with a knock in the win over Southampton last weekend but should be fit.

Jonathan Pearce: John Lennon's Imagine was number one the last time these two met in the top flight - no-one could have imagined such an impressive start to the season for Wolves.  Their football has flowed joyously. Form suggests the run will continue.

Palace lacked a cutting edge after fighting back at Bournemouth before throwing away a point. They need to change their style. Without a home goal so far, they have to stop the slump. Wolves play open football. If Palace catch them on the break they can get a much-needed win.  But "you may say I'm a dreamer..."

VIEW FROM THE DUGOUT

Crystal Palace manager Roy Hodgson: "There won't be many statistics that will bother us after last season: seven games, no goals, no points and a minus 18 goal difference. It was the worst start in Premier League history and we were strong enough to get over that. The longer you don't win at home, the more the pressure will build up, but we have to go and give the performance we want to give."

Wolves head coach Nuno Espirito Santo on their unbeaten run: "It's a reflection on the players, the way they have been playing and working. It's an honour, of course, but it gives us more responsibility. We want to repeat it and improve through the season. But we're only looking at the next game - that's against a very difficult Crystal Palace side."

LAWRO'S PREDICTION

Because of their form and the way they are playing, Wolves are probably expected to win this.  I am not so sure. I know Wolves have already been to Old Trafford and picked up a point but Selhurst Park is a very different environment, and I think they might find it tough there. Prediction: 2-0

MATCH FACTS

Head-to-head  Crystal Palace and Wolves have never met in the Premier League - this is their first top-flight meeting since January 1981. Palace have won their last three games against Wolves in all competitions, most recently by 3-1 in the Championship in January 2013.

Crystal Palace have won just one of their last six top-flight games (D1, L4) and are yet to score a Premier League goal at Selhurst Park this season. However, at this stage last season they had lost all seven of their games by an aggregate score of 0-17. Victory would be their 100th in the Premier League and their 200th in the top flight.  Palace have conceded three penalties in their seven league games in 2018-19. Wilfried Zaha has had a hand in 10 goals in his last 12 Premier League appearances, scoring eight and setting up two. Zaha scored twice and assisted another in his two previous league appearances against Wolves, both of which came in the Championship in 2012-13.

Wolverhampton Wanderers are unbeaten in five league games (W3, D2), their best top-flight run since November 1981. The last time they were unbeaten in six was April 1979.  Victory would put Wolves on 15 points after eight games - only five promoted clubs have previously achieved that tally as quickly in the Premier League.  Seven of their eight league goals have come in the second half. Wolves will set a Premier League record if their starting line-up is unchanged for the eighth consecutive match from the beginning of the season.  Raul Jimenez has been directly involved in half of Wolves' eight Premier League goals so far this season, with two goals and two assists

07 H Sat 29 Sep 15:00  Wolves 2 Southampton 0

Wolverhampton Wanderers 2 Cavaleiro (79'), Castro Otto (87')  Southampton 0.

Ivan Cavaleiro scored with his first touch in the Premier League as Wolves struck two second-half goals to beat Southampton at Molineux.  The Portuguese international converted after great work by record signing Adama Traore down the right with 11 remaining, before Jonathan Castro Otto received Matt Doherty's cut-back to secure the points in the closing stages. In a game starved of quality and clear-cut opportunities, it was substitute Traore who made the difference with incisive runs as the hosts defended their unbeaten home record. Southampton keeper Alex McCarthy had produced an excellent save from Raul Jimenez's header, having also denied the Mexican in a tight first half, to keep his side in the contest - but the Saints have now won only four of their past 32 league fixtures. 17:11 29/09/2018Nuno Espirito Santo's men, meanwhile, climb to eighth in the league and are now on an unbeaten top-flight run of five games for the first time since 1981

Tim Spiers (pic) said

It was no surprise to see Nuno name the same team for a seventh consecutive league game.  There was one alteration on the bench though with Ivan Cavaleiro named in a league squad for the first time this season. Morgan Gibbs-White dropped out, but there was no place for Leander Dendoncker.  Southampton boss Mark Hughes selected both Charlie Austin and Danny Ings up front as they looked to bounce back from last Saturday's 3-0 defeat at Liverpool. Despite the Premier League new boy status Wolves were big favourites going into the game (you could get 4/1 on a Southampton win) and the home team set about trying to dominate from the off. The first 15 minutes were played out almost exclusively in Southampton's half, with the visitors resorting to regularly fouling Diogo Jota and Helder Costa in a bid to stop them breaking free. Indeed, Jannik Vestergaard chopped down Jota on three occasions near the Saints box, but referee Stuart Attwell kept his card in his pocket. Ruben Neves and Joao Moutinho had opportunities to punish the visitors from the resulting free kicks, but failed to beat the wall. After 10 minutes came the first real chance for the hosts. A well-worked move saw Costa skip past Wesley Hoedt and feed Matt Doherty – his low cross fell to Jonny Castro Otto whose shot from 15 yards was pushed wide by keeper Alex McCarthy. Jota hesitated when well placed after good work from Raul Jimenez and Ryan Bennett headed a Moutinho corner straight at the keeper as Wolves controlled the game. But then Southampton began to find a foothold and create a few opportunities of their own in what was a one-sided spell of about 10 minutes. Austin flashed a shot wide, Ings' deflected effort whistled past the post and Rui Patricio had to block from Mohamed Elyounoussi who had ghosted in behind Otto. Wolves weathered the storm and ended the half on top. A gorgeous Neves 50-yard rake to Doherty saw the Irishman, in front of watching Ireland assistant boss Roy Keane, cross low for Jimenez whose snap-shot on the turn was saved by McCarthy. The striker then headed over from Moutinho's cross. It was a pretty even first half but Wolves were nowhere near their best – they lacked their usual tempo and aggression in the final third and the ball just wasn't sticking up top often enough. Southampton were doing a good job of disrupting their flow with a physical – and smart – defensive display. Nuno was forced to make a change early in the second half when Costa succumbed to a knee injury after he fell awkwardly under Ryan Bertrand's challenge. Adama Traore was his replacement. Approaching the hour mark it was all a bit flat – Wolves were still lacking inspiration and urgency. Southampton's tackles, fouls and interceptions were successfully stopping Wolves from generating any momentum. A packed house tried to rouse them but chances remained few and far between. Doherty's quick ball down the line to Jimenez saw the Mexican striker cross low and first time...but Jota wasn't even in the box to meet it. It summed up Wolves' performance – they just weren't quite on it. Southampton probed at the other end but rarely tested Patricio, who dropped a regulation Vestergaard free kick but then gobbled it up at the second attempt. With 17 minutes left to play Nuno's team had yet to muster an attempt on goal in the second half. It was insipid and pretty dull to watch – nothing compared to what we've seen in recent weeks.   Nuno gave Cavaleiro his Premier League debut in place of Jota with 77 minutes on the clock, shortly after Patricio had to save from Stuart Armstrong who should have done better from close range. It had that feeling of a Southampton late winner about it...but from nowhere Traore sparked Wolves into life – and then into the lead. He buoyantly raced down the right flank with all the wild abandon of Theresa May in a field of wheat, beat his man and crossed low for Jimenez who, just like at Old Trafford last week, collected and teed up a team mate, this time Cavaleiro who smashed past McCarthy from 12 yards to send Molineux potty. The place was transformed – and so were Wolves who nearly doubled their lead when Jimenez flicked on Moutinho's cross with a great header, only to be denied by a superb McCarthy save. It was all Wolves now. They were full of confidence and swagger and had absolutely no intention to sit on their lead. They deservedly doubled it when Doherty showed great persistence to get to the byline (he never does that) and played to Otto who fired low past McCarthy from close range for his first goal for the club. They saw out five minutes of stoppage time with ease as an adoring crowd sang their hearts out.

Key moments

10 – Otto's shot from Doherty's cross is saved by McCarthy

79 – GOAL – Traore races down the right and crosses for Jimenez who cleverly tees up CAVALEIRO to smash home

82 – Fantastic save from McCarthy to keep out Jimenez's header

87 – GOAL – Doherty tees up OTTO who beats McCarthy to seal the win

TEAM NEWS

Wolves could equal the Premier League record by naming an unchanged starting line-up for the seventh consecutive match from the beginning of a season.  Ivan Cavaleiro is available after making his comeback from a back injury in Tuesday's League Cup exit.

Southampton welcome back leading scorer Danny Ings, who was ineligible to face parent club Liverpool last weekend. Moi Elyounoussi and Manolo Gabbiadini should return but Shane Long is likely to miss out with a toe problem.

MOTD COMMENTATOR'S NOTES

@mfisherfootball: Wolves continue to win new admirers. Their excellent performance in the draw at Manchester United persuaded more observers that Nuno's side rank as one of the best new arrivals to the Premier League in years.  Anyone who witnessed their stroll to the Championship title will know that there's more to come - and turning numerous chances into goals is their main issue.  Goals have been a long-term problem for Southampton, so Danny Ings' availability is a major boost. He has scored three of their six so far and is surely the main threat to Wolves' unbeaten home record that stretches back to January.

VIEW FROM THE DUGOUT

Wolves head coach Nuno Espirito Santo on his side's lack of cutting edge: "We cannot dream and expect these things to happen.   The way to do it is work harder, in the training sessions, knowing the players' confidence and talent will come naturally."

Southampton manager Mark Hughes: "We're a work in progress but for the most part I'm pleased with our general play. Since I've come here, up to the Everton game next week we'll have had 19 games and only six at home.  Our away form is a reflection of how we're trying to play. Sometimes when the onus isn't so much on being on the front foot, as the away team it can be easier to play the games you're faced with."

LAWRO'S PREDICTION

Before this week, I had only predicted one win for Wolves this season in their first six matches, but I must admit I had not really watched that much of them before the draw at Old Trafford. Mea culpa, because actually they look a really well-balanced side.  At the same time as Wolves were looking so impressive against United, Southampton were having a very different afternoon at Anfield. I think Saints will have another difficult day at Molineux.  Prediction: 2-0

MATCH FACTS

Head-to-head - Southampton have gone five matches without victory against Wolves in all competitions, losing the last three. They have never suffered four defeats in a row in this fixture.

However, Wolves are winless in eight top-flight meetings, losing both previous Premier League encounters in 2003-04, since a 3-0 victory at The Dell in April 1980.  Wolves won at home to Southampton for the first time in 10 attempts in the most recent meeting at Molineux, a Championship game in April 2009.

Wolverhampton Wanderers - Wolves could extend their unbeaten top-flight run to five games for the first time since November 1981. Nuno Espirito Santo's side have gone 12 league matches without defeat at Molineux since losing 2-0 to Nottingham Forest in January (W7, D5). If Wolves avoid defeat they will reach double figures in points after seven matches. They have never accrued 10 points in fewer than 11 Premier League games.  They have had 89 attempts on goal, a tally only surpassed by the top three sides prior to this weekend's round of matches.  Their six games have produced 12 goals, the second fewest in the division behind Crystal Palace's 10.

Southampton  - They have won only four of their last 31 league fixtures, which includes three away victories.

Southampton have failed to beat a top-half opponent in 29 attempts since April 2017 (D11, L18).

Saints have scored just 45 goals in their past 50 league matches.

They have dropped an unrivalled 26 points from winning positions in the Premier League since the start of last season.  Danny Ings is vying to score in three consecutive league appearances for the first time since January 2015, when he was at Burnley. Charlie Austin scored in both of his previous league appearances against Wolves, for Burnley in 2012 and QPR in 2015.

EFL3 H Tue 25 19:45 Carabao Cup 3rd Round Leicester 0-0 1-3 penalties

Wolverhampton Wanderers 0, Leicester City 0 FT

HT 0-0

Leicester City win 3-1 on penalties

Goalkeeper Danny Ward saved three penalties as Leicester beat Wolves in a dramatic shootout at Molineux to reach the fourth round of the Carabao Cup.  Substitute Kelechi Iheanacho scored the winning penalty after Wolves trio Romain Saiss, Diogo Jota and Adama Traore all missed their spot-kicks.  Christian Fuchs and Hamza Choudhury missed from the spot for Leicester.

Leicester suffered an injury scare as Demarai Gray was taken off on a stretcher with his leg in a brace. Wolves' Ryan Bennett had a chance to win it in normal time but headed over from close-range late in the game.  Leicester squandered chances in each half as Marc Albrighton was denied by goalkeeper John Ruddy twice.  Vicente Iborra's low strike flew wide in the first half and Rachid Ghezzal also came close for Leicester.  The hosts had chances to break the deadlock through Ivan Cavaleiro but he dragged his shot wide before midfielder Morgan Gibbs-White's strike was saved by Ward late in the second half.

Under manager Nuno Espirito Santo, Wolves have still not conceded a single goal in normal time in six Carabao cup matches.  Nuno made nine changes to the side which drew 1-1 with Manchester United in the on Saturday despite naming the same team in all of their Premier League games this season.  Leicester also made plenty of changes - eight in total - but Jamie Vardy, Marc Albrighton and Wes Morgan all featured.

Leicester winger Gray had a heavy fall in the last minute of normal time and received oxygen during a lengthy stop in play.  But manager Claude Puel said the midfielder was "positive" and he hopes "it's not a serious injury.  It was the one time he defended," said Puel. "Demarai has hurt his left ankle and will have a scan tomorrow morning."  The 22-year-old - who has made eight appearances for Leicester this season - left the stadium on crutches with a protective boot around his ankle.

'We were the better team' - what the managers said

Leicester manager Claude Puel said: "We have recruited [Ward] just for penalties. No, we know his quality, in training sessions. He is a fantastic keeper and it was a good opportunity for him to show his quality so I am happy for him.  It was a tough game for the team and for him also because he didn't have a lot to do in the game so he had to keep his concentration and his condition until the penalties, and he was very successful."

Wolves manager Nuno Espirito Santo said: "It was a good game, intense. Leicester started strong but I thought we controlled the game after that. We were the better team and created more chances.  The changes meant nothing for us, we kept the same philosophy. I was proud of the way the players worked this evening. Defensively we have shown we are good and for the second year in a row we have gone out of the competition without conceding a goal."

The draw for the fourth round will take place on Saturday, September 29.

Claude Puel has won six of his eight League Cup matches (D1 L1), his only defeat in this run coming in the 2017 final against Manchester United with Southampton.

Joao Moutinho's superb strike earned Wolves a draw at Manchester United as the newly promoted visitors continued their strong start to life in the Premier League. The Portugal midfielder whipped in from the edge of the area as Nuno Espirito Santo's side matched their hosts at Old Trafford.  Wolves were lively in the first half and unlucky to go behind as Fred netted his first goal for United - the Brazilian firing in from just inside the box after Paul Pogba's excellent touch.   United, with former manager Sir Alex Ferguson watching on during his first visit to Old Trafford since having emergency brain surgery in May, were looking for a third straight league win. The hosts were on top after the break, but Raul Jimenez's clever lay-off set up Moutinho for what was a deserved equaliser for the visitors. The draw keeps Wolves one point behind Manchester United in 10th, as Mourinho's side climb to fifth.

A familiar Portuguese affair The last time Wolves visited Manchester United in the Premier League, they fell to a 4-1 thrashing on their way to finishing bottom of the table. It was the same season Mourinho guided Real Madrid to a first La Liga title in four seasons. Much has changed for both parties in the seven years since - Wolves dropping into League One before starting their ascent to the top flight and Mourinho making a title-winning return to former club Chelsea. But there was a sense of familiarity at Old Trafford as the well-acquainted Portuguese coaches took to either dugout.  Wolves boss Santo, Mourinho's back-up goalkeeper for Porto from 2002 to 2004, regards his former manager as "a big inspiration" in his career, but he more than matched his mentor tactically as Wolves' brand of quick, counter-attacking football caused the hosts problems. Wolves were unlucky to head into half-time behind, with United goalkeeper David de Gea saving well from Willy Boly's header having earlier parried a smart turn and shot from Jimenez. The Championship winners have benefited from an influx of Portuguese stars under the influence of agent Jorge Mendes, who acts as an advisor to Wolves' owners Fosun and also represents Mourinho. And it was summer arrival Moutinho, with 113 Portugal caps to his name, who inspired the visitors' fight back alongside his younger compatriot Ruben Neves in midfield.  Moutinho's leveller was well deserved as Wolves became the first team this season to take points off both Manchester sides.

Moutinho goal

FT: Another feather in Wolves cap as they hold on for a draw at Old Trafford. United were poor in truth, with Wolves having much the better of the play for large swathes of the encounter. Moutinho cancelled out Fred's opener, but United looked like the most likely winner, only to find Wolves a tough nut to crack. Never mind simply staying up, this Wolves side can really aim high if they put in more performances like this.   90+4: Time is running out for United. Martial tries to thread it through for Lukaku, but it is blocked once more.  90+2: De Gea to the rescue once more for United as he stretched out a leg to keep a fizzing effort from Traore out.   90: Five minutes of added time here.  89: CLOSE! Corner comes in, it comes off a Wolves head, but flies just over the top. Chance after chance for United.  87: Felliani brilliantly controls the ball on his chest, but his cross is blocked. All United still.  85: Confusion in the Wolves box for the first time, but Boly takes charge right at the last to clear with Lukaku lurking with intent.  83: All United now. Pogba is starting to get involved much more, as is Martial. Can Wolves hold out? 16:38 81: Moutinho's match is over, as he is replaced by Romain Saiss for his Premier League debut.  16:37 79: Better pressure from United here with Martial and Mata both putting good crosses into the box. This man's equaliser still frustrates United... 77: Pogba strikes a free-kick well, but that is straight at Patricio once more.  75: One change each here with Andreas Pereira coming on for Lingard for United, and Adama Traore on for Costa for Wolves. 73: Lingard clips a cross into the middle, but that is too easy for Patricio to gather. Poor from United. 71: SAVE! Great cross from Shaw to guide the ball to the back post, onto the head of Fellaini, but the Belgian's header is straight at Patricio.  69: Neves has another strike from distance, it bounces just in front of De Gea, but the Spaniard gathers well nonetheless. 67: SAVES! Nice play from Jota to make space for the shot, he then drills for goal, but De Gea gets down sharply to smother, before, down the other end, Lingard is denied by a smart save from Patricio.  65: Double change for United. Sanchez's game is up, as he is replaced by Anthony Martial. Juan Mata also comes on for Fred. 63: CLOSE! Pogba lines one up from distance, drills hard and true, but it flies just wide.   61: Pogba lures Neves into a tackle, with the Wolves man booked for his efforts.    59: United really are struggling to create anything of note. Sanchez and Lukaku have been especially poor.  57: Costa lets fly from distance, but that is always heading over the top. Wolves remain on top.  55: Old Trafford is stunned into silence. They know their team have been second best for much of this contest. A change may be in the offing.

16:10 GOAL! MANCHESTER UTD 1-1 WOLVES (Moutinho, 53)

Thoroughly deserved equaliser. Great play from Jimenez to hold the ball up in the penalty area, he then lays a perfect pass into the path of the onrushing Moutinho, who fires into the top corner, leaving De Gea with no chance.   João Moutinho has scored his first goal in 28 league games since netting against PSG in November 2017. Equaliser.

51: Fellaini, on a rare foray forward, tries to pull the ball back for Lingard, but gets just too much on it, and Wolves can clear. Better play from United.  49: Great cross from Jimenez into the path of Jonny, but Valencia does well to get back and make the interception. 47: Lukaku, who has been very quiet by his standards, tried to flick the ball through for Fred but gets it all wrong.  45: We are back up and running here...

15:57 betting A 2-1 United win is 7/1, the same as Lukaku to score in the second half. Fred to add a second is a huge 18/1 and Jota to score is 13/2.

15:49 HT: That's your lot for the first half here. Wolves have been very impressive and certainly do not deserve to go into the interval behind. United have had two shots on target, but made one count, with Fred rifling home his first for the club. De Gea has been forced to make two very good saves to keep the visitors at bay.

45+1: SAVE! Incredible stop from Patricio! Fred whipped a free-kick towards the top corner, it looked to be heading in, but Patricio flew across his goal and clawed it out. Stunning goalkeeping. 45: One minute of added time here. 44: Alexis Sanchez, who has been very poor so far, fires a free-kick straight out for a goal kick and gets some glaring looks from his team-mates in the aftermath. 42: Wolves passing the ball around with consummate ease still. They are not creating enough chances, though.  40: Shaw hauls down Costa on the right wing to earn himself the game's first yellow card. 38: Joao Moutinho is really controlling things in the middle of the park for Wolves, spreading the ball left and right to try to unlock United. 15:37 ADAM BATE AT OLD TRAFFORD "United are dominating possession here at Old Trafford but Wolves remain an intermittent threat on the counter-attack. Away fans still vocal for now – it feels like this game will hinge on the next goal." 36: Fred this time does well to see the ball behind for a goal kick. Wolves will not lie down in this... 34: Fred drifts a free-kick to the back post, Fellaini gets up highest, heads the ball across goal, but it is cleared.  32: A standing ovation now for Sir Alex Ferguson. I think he just wants to watch the game in peace, guys.   30: Smalling again is across to cover, halting Diogo Jota in his tracks.  28: Wolves still very much enjoying the lion's share of the possession. Jonny tries to beat Smalling in the corner, but the United defender sees the ball behind for a goal kick. One man was especially happy with the United opener... 26: Wolves continue to impress. Some of their passing is top notch. United again on the back foot.  5:25  500 - Fred is the 500th different player to score a competitive goal for @ManUtd (exc. own-goals). Milestone. 24: Get out of the way, ref! Lingard tries to switch the play to the left wing, fires a high pass crossfield, right into the face of the referee! 22: United have exerted some control on the game and are retaining possession much better. 20: Wolves have responded well. They really do not deserve to be behind in this game!  15:18 GOAL! MANCHESTER UTD 1-0 WOLVES (Fred, 18) Very much against the run of play United are ahead. Paul Pogba will take a great deal of credit for the goal, as he sumptuously laid the ball off for Fred on the edge of the box before the Brazilian drilled it into the bottom corner for his first goal in English football.  16: SAVE! De Gea to the rescue again for United, as Wolves, from another corner, almost score. Willy Bolly lost his marker in the box, but saw his header brilliantly clawed out by De Gea. 14: CHANCE! Glorious opportunity for Ryan Bennett to test De Gea from a corner, but he heads over from eight yards. His marker, Chris Smalling, got caught underneath the ball, leaving Bennett free. He really should have hit the target.  12: Fred comes on to the loose ball on the edge of the box, but slices his effort well wide under challenge. 11 United still cannot get out of their half at the moment. Victor Lindelof does well to block a cross. 8: United really are on the back foot early on. They cannot string more than a few passes together, either. 6: SAVE! Super stop from David de Gea with his legs, as he blocks a close range effort from Raul Jimenez in the box. Nice build-up play from Helder Costa to get to the byline and pull the ball back for Jimenez, too. Great start from Wolves. 4: NO PENALTY! Faint appeals at Old Trafford for a foul on Antonio Valencia in the box, but referee Kevin Friend is having none of it. 2: Early corner for Wolves is headed clear by Marouane Fellaini. United on the back foot early on.

15:00 KICK OFF! We are up and running at a sodden Old Trafford.  14:57 FORM GUIDE It has been quite the turnaround from United after suffering those back-to-back defeats at the end of August. Three wins, away from home, has certainly brightened the mood at Old Trafford. Wolves, though, will be no pushovers, having won three of their last four in all competitions. Something has to give! We are minutes away 14:55 FERGIE OVATION Huge ovation for Sir Alex.. announcer "honoured and delighted" to have him here "relieved and overjoyed" too. Wolves fans: "You've only come to see the Wanderers!"  All in good spirits, of course - great to see a smiling Ferguson back at Old Trafford.

16:54   Well, time to take a breath. That's it from me, but follow all the reaction to today's Premier League games here  FULL-TIME So close for Adama Traore! He blazes over after a long run, and that's it. Great game.

90+4' United launching it forward, Wolves still dangerous on the break.   Leon Osman Wolves have got to be careful, they're dropping deeper and deeper and allowing United to run at them. Tired legs and tired minds are giving away free kicks now. 90+2' Been a cracking game this. Hard to pick a winner, if there is to be one... Two minutes of five added on gone. 90+1' Almost for Adama Traore! He scampers forward on the break and forces David De Gea into a good save. 90' Tense at Old Trafford, but it's all United. Wolves hanging on a little. Andreas Pereira fires straight into the wall. Not sure Juan Mata will let him have another one. 83' Chance for United, silly free-kick to give away from Romain Saiss...80'  Another change for Wolves. Goalscorer Joao Moutinho goes off for Romain Saiss. 78' Great turn and sprint from Adama Traore, but Wolves are unable to make the most of the potential break.  Manchester United enjoying plenty of pressure. 74'  Good shift from Helder Costa. But here comes Adama Traore. Jesse Lingard goes off for Manchester United as Andreas Pereira comes on.  71'  Just under 20 minutes to go. Hard to call this... Marouane Fellaini rises at the back post to meet Luke Shaw's delivery, but Rui Patricio makes a comfortable save.   16:2916:29 'Neves and Moutinho have been terrific' Leon Osman  Some of the passes from Neves and Moutinho have been terrific. They are slipping them through the tightest spaces. Their fine intricate passing has been unreal to watch today.  66' Great hit from Jesse Lingard!  Just as I said Wolves were on top, the Manchester United midfielder lets rip from long-range with a swerving effort that's pushed over the bar. Romelu Lukaku then misses an absolute sitter of a header, but is flagged offside.  65' Diogo Jota works himself half a yard and gets a left-footed effort off, but it trickles into the hands a of a diving David De Gea. Wolves on top at the minute.  64' Think Mourinho was careful there not to directly replace Alexis Sanchez with Anthony Martial, although that is essentially what's happened...  My mate has a theory that the key to Sanchez's brilliance at Arsenal was Olivier Giroud... you listening, Jose? It's another match in which he's struggled to have an impact since joining United. 62'   Jose Mourinho is changing things up. Fred goes off for Anthony Martial, and Alexis Sanchez is off for Juan  Mata.  61' YELLOW CARD Cynical by Ruben Neves. Professional foul if ever there was one, and he takes a booking for the team after cleaning out Paul Pogba at full pelt.   16:1716:17 'United are rattled' Leon Osman United look shaken at the moment. They are rattled. Wolves are harrying them. Someone in the United team needs to settle them down and get some passes together. 57'  Wolves go on the attack again with Helder Costa flying forward down the middle this time. He looks up and fancies a ping, but it sails over the bar. 55'  Game on now. Can't say Wolves don't deserve to be level, but Manchester United had been on top early in the second half. Now it's the visitors who look more lively.

52' GOAL -

Joao Moutinho (52') What a goal! It's almost a re-run of the first half, but in reverse. This time Manchester United fail to make the pressure pay and Wolves go up the other end and score. Raul Jimenez does superbly to hold the ball up inside the area, before laying it off to Joao Moutinho and the Portugal midfielder whips it left-footed into the top corner. Might have clipped Antonio Valencia on the way in, David De Gea had no chance.

51'  Smart move from Manchester United as Alexis Sanchez slips Marouane Fellaini into space, but the Belgium midfielder can't pick out a team-mate and his low, fizzing cross is cleared. Sanchez is looking more dangerous, he tries to bundle his way through the penalty area but is crowded out.  49' Great ball from Paul Pogba to send Romelu Lukaku away, but the Manchester United forward is alone in the box. He cuts inside, but his left-footed shot is deflected away.  Wolves break down the other end and think they should have a penalty after Diogo Jota hits the deck... but it's waved away.  47' Quick start from Wolves again, but Helder Costa's loose pass gives Manchester United the chance to break and Alexis Sanchez skips past Joao Moutinho in midfield.  Wolves scramble back, and hold United up with plenty of white shirts behind the ball.

45' KICK-OFF Here they are! And here we go, Jesse Lingard gets the second half under way. Wolves are back out early to warm up for the second half, no sign of Manchester United just yet...

15:5215:52 'United look strong' Manchester United 1-0 Wolves Leon Osman Former Everton midfielder on BBC Radio 5 live It's been a real tactical battle out there and both teams have played really well. It's been a game of cat and mouse, where Neves and Moutinho were very much on top and  creating opportunities in the Wolves midfield but United's physicality has taken control of the game, especially from Pogba. United are looking strong.

HALF-TIME   Good game so far, Manchester United just edging it.

45+3' Another chance for Manchester United from a free-kick, and Fred fancies this one... Great hit, great save! The midfielder whips it left-footed around the wall but Wolves goalkeeper Rui Patricio does brilliantly to get across and tip it on to the post.  45'    Paul Pogba's diagonal pass picks out Luke Shaw and then strikes Raul Jimenez's arm to, ahem, hand Manchester United a free-kick just outside the box.  Alexis Sanchez shouts at Romelu Lukaku after blazing the free-kick way off target - not sure how he can moan at anyone else for that. 43' Jesse Lingard is putting a serious shift in and gets a huge round of applause as he chases down his own clearance to put pressure on Wolves goalkeeper Rui Patricio. Here come the visitors again though, Luke Shaw having to recover quickly to clear.   41'  YELLOW CARD Booking for Luke Shaw as he brings down Helder Costa. No complaints. 40' it's fascinating watching Manchester United's shape when they defend - two banks of four with Marouane Fellaini sandwiched between protecting the defence, only Romelu Lukaku ahead of the ball.  It's proving hard for Wolves to break down, as Ruben Neves just overcooks an attempted through ball and watches it run out for a goal-kick.  37' Good football from Wolves, good defending from Manchester United.  A lovely, clipped pass down the right from Matt Doherty gets Raul Jimenez away and he lifts a ball to the back post where Diogo Jota is waiting, but Fred comes sprinting back to help out his back four. 33'  Fred hangs it up at the back post for Marouane Fellaini to attack and the Belgian heads back across goal, but there's no United player gambling on it and somehow it bobbles through the six-yard-box without being turned in. 32'  Ruben Neves is going to find himself in the book... is he? Nope, just a stern word from Kevin Friend. Neves was unhappy about being pulled up for a foul on Paul Pogba. Chance for Fred to deliver...'United playing with more confidence' - Leon Osman - That goal has settled Manchester United down. They were rocked by the start Wolves made, misplacing passes and they couldn't get to grips with how Wolves had set up. But they are playing with much more confidence now. 30'  Wolves play some lovely stuff. Nuno Espirito Santo's side patiently look for an opening before springing Diogo Jota down the left. He tries to scoop it through Chris Smalling's legs, but the England defender stands strong. Can't claim that one. 25' Paul Pogba looks in the mood, trying to play little touches around the Wolves midfield, but the Frenchman just over runs it in the box and Matt Doherty nips in. Wolves have been quick on the break, but opt to keep the ball for a moment. Just regrouping.  23' Wolves must feel pretty hard done by, but that goal will play right into Jose Mourinho's hands. It's the visitors who will have to open up looking to get back into the game. They've had their chances... 22' A first Premier League goal for Fred, then - sure Sir Alex Ferguson enjoyed that on his return to Old Trafford.   15:21' 'Fantastic touch from Pogba' Manchester United 1- 0 Wolves Leon Osman  That there is the difference at this level. You have go to take your opportunities at this point. Wolves should be 3-0 up and it was decent bit of play from United. A fantastic touch from Pogba who pushed it into the path of Fred and it was a great finish. A shot from 20 yards and they find themselves 1-0 up. 18' GOAL -  Fred (18') Well, well, well... Wolves fail to take their chances and Manchester United go down the other and score. Wonderful touch from Paul Pogba as the ball drops out of the air on the edge of the box, just nonchalantly guiding it into Fred's path, and the  Brazilian does the rest. Quick look up, low drive into the bottom right corner and Jose Mourinho's side are ahead. 16' CLOSE!  Wolves should be in front! They need to take one of these chances. Again Manchester United fail to deal with a corner and it's a header from close range for Willy Boly, who's  unmarked. Luckily for United, David de Gea is alert and gets a strong hand to it.  16' Diogo Jota has been causing a few problems early on. United's solution? Three-man sandwich. Flattened. Wolves break quickly again, but Raul Jimenez is isolated and happy to win a corner 14' . Ryan Bennett out-jumps Paul Pogba from a corner, but can't direct his header on target. The Wolves defender did well to win the header, but probably should have done better once he got to it. 'A fantastic start to the game' Manchester United 0-0 Wolves  Leon Osman Former Everton midfielder on BBC Radio 5 live It's a real interesting battle going on with two different formations. Defensively Wolves are a back five to try and compete. The moment Wolves win the ball they attack within their system. They are both showing respect defensively. It's been a fantastic start to the game. 13' Better from Manchester United, working it through Paul Pogba, Luke Shaw and Alexis Sanchez, before Fred skews a shot wide under pressure from the Wolves defence. He's adamant he should have had a free-kick. Referee Kevin Friend thinks otherwise. 10' Helder Costa is loving life out on the right for Wolves. He breezes past Victor Lindelof on halfway and darts towards the Manchester United area, but can't pick out another white shirt with his cross. The hosts are giving him far too much space. 7' Big chance for Raul Jimenez! Great feet from the Mexico forward as he swivels smartly in the box and gets a shot off on goal after another slick attacking move from Wolves.  David de Gea gets a foot to it, and United scramble clear. Great work from Helder Costa down the right.  6' Wolves deal with the danger. And everyone takes a breather. Lively start at Old Trafford. Open game, this. Antonio Valencia goes down under pressure in the box at one end, before Wolves set off on the break and Raul Jimenez fails to connect properly with a low Matt Doherty cross. Back down the other end again, and United win a corner after smart play from Jesse Lingard.  2' Good movement from the visitors as Diogo Jota scampers forward and wins a corner. Manchester United clear and Willy Boly can only help an unorthodox attempt at a volley as the ball drops high out of the sky well over the crossbar.  5' Open game, this. Antonio Valencia goes down under pressure in the box at one end, before Wolves set off on the break and Raul Jimenez fails to connect properly with a low Matt Doherty cross. Manchester United clear and Willy Boly can only help an unorthodox attempt at a volley as the ball drops high out of the sky well over the crossbar.  0'  Wolves are having to re-take kick-off. That's unusual.  Raul Jimenez rolls it back and it's booted straight out of play. Worth it. 0' KICK-OFF  Right then, here we go.  Wolves get this one under way.  14:5814:58 'Wolves are a really good team' Here's a scheduling stat...  Manchester United, Manchester City and Liverpool are all playing in 15:00 BST kick-offs on a Saturday for the first time since October 2012. TEAM NEWS

Marcus Rashford and Nemanja Matic are suspended for Manchester United, while Ander Herrera and Marcos Rojo are not yet considered fit enough to feature.  Phil Jones could return from a hamstring problem, while Jesse Lingard and Antonio Valencia are likely to play after being rested in midweek.  Diogo Dalot impressed on debut against Young Boys but his next start is set to come on Tuesday in the Carabao Cup. Wolves could name the same starting XI for a sixth consecutive league game. Ivan Cavaleiro is expected to be their only absentee as he continues his recovery from a back injury. MOTD COMMENTATOR'S NOTES

@Guymowbray: Young Boys weren't a problem, but a meeting with an old boy might be for Jose Mourinho, with Wolves boss Nuno Espirito Santo having been his back-up goalkeeper for Porto from 2002 to 2004. Three wins out of three in September has seen Manchester United return to 'normal' after August defeats brought early-season worry, and normally you'd expect them to comfortably see off a newly-promoted team at home. Wolves, though, do not fit the newly-promoted norm. They've spent money, they have style and they play with no fear. Nuno will bring his team to have a real go at Old Trafford, where Wolves last won in 1980. It should be a really good game.

VIEW FROM THE DUGOUT

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho, asked about the influence of his agent, Jorge Mendes, at Wolves: "I think the work in Wolves is good because it's not just about the Portuguese influence - Portuguese manager, staff and players - it is also about getting the right ones and I think they have got good young players and they have also got good, experienced, stable players. "So, they got this season, the Portuguese national team goalkeeper [Rui Patricio], they got [Joao] Moutinho, who is one of the players of the 100 caps club. The young ones are young boys with good potential and you can see the work of the coaching staff - and the team is a really, really good team. Wolves head coach Nuno Espirito Santo: "Jose Mourinho was my manager for two years - what we achieved for Porto will be in our memories forever. To all the players that were in the squad - he was a big inspiration. But then things change, you go on with your career personally - he was a big inspiration."

LAWRO'S PREDICTION

All sorts of questions were being asked about Manchester United when they lost to Tottenham at the end of August, but since then they have won three out of three, all away from home.  United have got some momentum now and their troubles seem a long time ago. I can only see a home win. Prediction: 2-0

MATCH FACTS

Head-to-head

Wolves' most recent away victory against Manchester United came in the top flight on 9 February 1980, when Melvyn Eves scored the only goal. They have lost their last eight league and cup games away to the Red Devils. Manchester United - United have lost two of their last five Premier League home games, as many as they had in their previous 43 fixtures at Old Trafford. They are vying to avoid back-to-back home league defeats for the first time since March 2014, when they lost 3-0 to both Liverpool and Manchester City. That was also the last time they failed to score in consecutive top-flight matches at Old Trafford. Jose Mourinho has never suffered successive home league defeats in his managerial career. After losing to Newcastle and Brighton, United could lose three consecutive top-flight games against newly-promoted opposition - something that last happened in 1960. However, the Reds have lost only one of their last 49 Premier League home games against newly-promoted sides (W42, D6), with the sole loss coming against Norwich in December 2015. United have had players sent off in each of their last two league games (Marcus Rashford and Nemanja Matic) - they have never received red cards in three consecutive Premier League matches. Wolverhampton Wanderers  Wolves could win three consecutive top-flight games for the first time since March 1980. They are attempting back-to-back away wins in a single top-flight season for the first time since 1981. They did win consecutive Premier League away games in 2011, but that sequence straddled the 2010-11 and 2011-12 seasons. Nuno Espirito Santo's side have had 78 shots in this season's Premier League, the fourth highest total in the division behind Manchester City (119), Chelsea (94) and Liverpool (83).

Raul Jimenez had five shots on goal before opening the scoring with his sixth.  Burnley's search for their first Premier League win of the season goes on as Wolves claimed a deserved victory at Molineux to continue their strong start to the campaign. After the hosts dominated large periods of the first half, Raul Jimenez deservedly opened the scoring for the home side on the hour mark as he turned in Matt Doherty's cross. The Clarets rarely threatened, with the only real chances they created falling to Johann Berg Gudmundsson late on.  Defeat for Sean Dyche's side means they have equalled a club-record run of four consecutive Premier League losses. Neither team was able to impose themselves in the opening 20, with the only save of note being Joe Hart's smart intervention to keep out Helder Costa's dangerous cross. But from then on it was all Wolves and only a combination of Hart and James Tarkowski kept the home side at bay after 30 when Jimenez, Jonny Otto and Doherty all went close. Jimenez also missed a good chance early in the second half when he blasted over with only defender Charlie Taylor to beat, but he made amends shortly after when he opened the scoring. Victory for Wolves means they climb to ninth, meanwhile Burnley remain in 19th with just one point from their first five games.

Dominant Wolves deserve more

In his pre-match news conference, Wolves head coach Nuno Espirito Santo called for his players to "maintain the standards" set in their 1-0 victory over West Ham prior to the international break, and he was not disappointed.  Last season's Championship winners were by far the brighter team throughout, putting Burnley under sustained periods of heavy pressure either side of the break. They really should have gone ahead on the half-hour mark when first Hart superbly saved to deny Jimenez, before Tarkowski was there to clear the Mexico striker's second effort off the line. Just moments later, Tarkowski was again alert to clear Otto's effort after Hart had palmed clear a low cross, and the former England keeper was then quickly out to smother Doherty's sliding effort from close range.

And after Jimenez finally found the net midway through the second half, the home side only got stronger largely due to the introduction of Adama Traore after 66, his pace causing a tiring Burnley backline problems.  The Spanish forward tested Hart himself before laying on three good chances for fellow second-half substitute Leo Bonatini, who was unable to convert.  Victory for Wolves means their impressive home record under Santo continues; his side have only been beaten twice at Molineux in his 29 games in charge.

Burnley's terrible start continues

Burnley perhaps could have been forgiven for their poor start to the Premier League season given their Europa League exertions but after the international break, there could be few excuses for their uninspiring performance.  Their midfield was overrun by Wolves' energy and Ashley Barnes' effort from range, which was easily saved, was his side's only shot on target in the opening 45. It seemed to take conceding a goal for the team to kick into gear, as their best chance came shortly after going behind when Willy Boly almost deflected a Taylor shot inches wide, with Jack Cork unable to apply the finishing touch.  But it could have been worse for Burnley as Doherty fired wide with only the keeper to beat after being set up by Traore, while Bonatini missed a spate of chances. Iceland winger Gudmundsson, on his return from injury, could have stolen a share of the spoils late on, but he shot straight at Rui Patricio and fired a free-kick over the bar. The Clarets have now won only five of their last 26 Premier League outings.  Dyche, however, will have been encouraged by the performances of Hart and Tarkowski, who once again showed why he has fought his way into the England fold.

Man of the match - Joao Moutinho

Joao Moutinho ran the show for Wolves, making 77 passes, more than any other player on the pitch

'We are in a fog' - what they said - Wolves head coach Nuno Espirito Santo, speaking to Sky Sports: "I am very, very satisfied. We played good football and stayed organised and created chances. Burnley are a good side and stayed in it until the end. If there is a 'but', we could be more clinical. But if we can continue to make these many chances, it makes me very proud."

Burnley manager Sean Dyche, speaking to Sky Sports: "We knew they were a good side. They invested well in the summer. We knew we'd have to defend resolute. We got some nice blocks in and looked more like ourselves defensively.  Attacking-wise there was nowhere near enough. We are in a bit of a fog at the moment. Collectively we need to get out of it. You have to work to change it so that's the key."

Burnley's worst top-flight start in 91 years - the stats - This is Burnley's worst start to a season in the top-flight (one point from five games) since 1927-28, when they lost each of their opening five matches.  Wolves have won all three of their Premier League meetings with Burnley, against no other side have they recorded a 100% win ratio. Burnley have never won a Premier League away game against newly-promoted opposition (W0, D6, L5).

Wolves have lost just one of their last 24 league games at Molineux (W16, D7, L1).   Wolves recorded more shots (30) against Burnley than they have against any other side in a single match in the Premier League.  Burnley have now conceded 10 goals in their opening five league games this season; it took them 13 matches to concede their 10th goal of 2017-18.  Each of Matt Doherty's last four goal involvements in the league have come at Molineux (two goals, two assists).

What's next?

Both sides are back in action on Saturday 22 September, with Burnley hosting Bournemouth, while Wolves travel to Old Trafford to face Manchester United (both 15:00 BST).

TEAM NEWS

Wolves could be without forward Raul Jimenez, who sustained a muscle injury on international duty with Mexico.  Portuguese winger Ivan Cavaleiro, who is yet to play this season due to a back problem, is still sidelined.

Burnley defender Stephen Ward has recovered from a foot injury, having been taken off in the second half of Republic of Ireland's Nations League loss to Wales.  Johann Berg Gudmundsson is also available but Ben Gibson remains out.

MOTD COMMENTATOR'S NOTES

@Iandennisbbc: Burnley will hope the international break has been a beneficial one to recharge their batteries, having already played 10 games.  To put that into context, it's a quarter of the games they played during the entire campaign last season, in a matter of weeks.  During the international break, Gareth Southgate highlighted the diminishing numbers of English players getting game time in the Premier League, but Burnley lead the way with a league-high 68% of home-grown players used so far.  Sean Dyche will hope those players can rediscover the form that served them well early last season, with excellent results at places such as Chelsea, Tottenham and Everton, because the Clarets are winless in nine Premier League games.

Wolves will not want the international hiatus to halt momentum from their victory at West Ham, as they seek to end their longest-ever run at Molineux without a top-flight victory.

VIEW FROM THE DUGOUT

Wolves head coach Nuno Espirito Santo: "The international break was in the calendar so we knew it was coming. The most important thing is that we established standards in the last game, and we have to maintain those standards. Winning is always good and makes things a lot easier when you are trying to establish an identity like we are."

Burnley manager Sean Dyche on a new contract for the injured Steven Defour: "He already signed in the summer. He has two years now. He's staying for another two years until 2020.  He was injured at the time and we leave players alone when they're injured, so we didn't go out to press and say he's here for another two years."

LAWRO'S PREDICTION

This is the type of game that Burnley did well in last season and they showed then that they are capable of getting a positive result out of it. Prediction: 0-2

MATCH FACTS

Head-to-head

Wolves have won both of their previous Premier League meetings with Burnley, under Mick McCarthy in 2009-10.  Burnley are unbeaten in four encounters with Wolves (W2, D2), their longest sequence without defeat since a run of five matches in 1970.  Wolves could go three consecutive home games without winning against Burnley for the first time since 1952.

Wolverhampton Wanderers Wolves are currently on a club-record run of 14 homes games without victory in the top flight (D4, L10).  However, they have only lost two of their 28 home games under Nuno Espirito Santo, winning 18 and drawing eight.  Wolves' victory against West Ham last time out was a first in the top flight since beating QPR in 2012, a run of 18 games.  It was also their first clean sheet in five league matches.  They could draw four consecutive top-flight home fixtures for the first time since 1969.

Burnley have won only five of their last 25 Premier League matches (D9, L11), with their last victory coming in April.  They could equal the club record of four straight Premier League defeats, set in May 2015 when they were relegated from the Premier League. The Clarets have never won a Premier League away match against newly-promoted opposition (D6, L4).  Burnley have faced a league-high 30 shots on target this season. In 2017-18 they were ranked 10th overall for shots faced. They have also conceded nine goals in four matches - as many as they let in during the first nine games in 2017-18. Their last win away in the top flight in September came in 1974. Since that victory over Liverpool, Burnley have conceded 26 times and scored just twice in seven defeats and two draws.

West Ham's miserable start to the season continued as substitute Adama Traore won the game for Wolves in injury time. Traore fired home in the 93rd minute after it looked like the hosts would earn their first point of the campaign. The result gives Wolves their first top-flight win since 4 February 2012, and means West Ham have lost all four league games under Manuel Pellegrini. Michail Antonio and Marko Arnautovic spurned West Ham's best chances. The home side had one of their best openings after just four minutes, when Felipe Anderson's shot forced Wolves goalkeeper Rui Patricio into action.

But a tame first half saw neither side assert themselves, with Matt Doherty's shot on target the only worrying moment for West Ham keeper Lukasz Fabianski. Patricio denied Antonio and Arnautovic with excellent blocks after half-time, the latter when the Portuguese stopped a shot with his face, as West Ham improved markedly - but it was Wolves that took the points. Raul Jimenez tripped over the ball when free inside the area late on with what looked to be the visitors' last chance, until Traore's dramatic intervention in stoppage time.

Worrying signs for West Ham

The defeat means West Ham have lost their first four games of a league campaign for only the second time. The previous occasion sets a worrying precedent, as that season - 2010-11 - ended in relegation. That scenario is a long way away from what the Hammers were imagining when they recruited Pellegrini, a Premier League winner with Manchester City at his first attempt in 2013-14, as manager. They lacked bite in the first half but created more chances almost from the start of the second, when Andriy Yarmolenko replaced Robert Snodgrass. Striker Javier Hernandez remained on the bench until the 75th minute, although the Hammers looked the likelier to break the deadlock.  But Carlos Sanchez lost the ball in his own half deep into stoppage time, and within seconds Wolves had seized their chance to ensure West Ham remain rooted to the foot of the Premier League table.

Wolves have bite and menace

Wolves were also without a win before their visit to London Stadium, but the second of their two points before kick-off had come from a spirited display in a draw with Pellegrini's former club and reigning champions Manchester City. Possibly inspired by that result, they were the better side before the break with Helder Costa and Joao Moutinho driving Nuno Espirito Santo's side on.  Jimenez's moment to forget, when the Mexican striker was put in on goal by a fine pass from Ruben Neves only to get the ball trapped between his feet, could easily have knocked last season's Championship winners off their stride.  But they took their chance at the crucial moment with Traore's crisp finish, and are showing signs they will pose problems for the rest of the Premier League this season.

Man of the match - Joao Moutinho (Wolves)

Joao Moutinho

Joao Moutinho's 87 touches were the most made by a player on either side at the London Stadium

The facts you may have missed: Manuel Pellegrini is the first West Ham manager to lose his first four Premier League games in charge since Avram Grant. West Ham have lost three consecutive Premier League home games versus newly promoted sides for the first time.

Wolves' Adama Traore scored the club's first ever 90th-minute match-winning goal in the Premier League. Traore scored his first league goal in 13 appearances, having not netted since March vs Brentford (for Middlesbrough). Wolves ended their longest ever winless run in the top flight, having previously gone 17 games without a win in the Premier League.

TEAM NEWS

West Ham forward Marko Arnautovic has recovered from the knee injury he suffered during the defeat at Arsenal last Saturday.  Captain Mark Noble is available after a back problem but Andy Carroll, Manuel Lanzini and Winston Reid remain out.

Wolves could be unchanged for the fourth successive league game. Club record signing Adama Traore made his first start in the midweek Carabao Cup win at Sheffield Wednesday, while Ivan Cavaleiro is the only absentee.

MOTD COMMENTATOR'S NOTES

Martin Fisher: It's early days but three consecutive defeats have West Ham fans worried again. It replicates their start to last season, which set the tone for a difficult campaign. Despite the arrival of a Premier League-winning manager over the summer and a host of new signings, things haven't yet clicked and familiar shortcomings remain.

Wolves are also looking for their first win but are far more upbeat. Confidence, already high after breezing to the Championship title, was massively boosted by taking a point off Manchester City last week in a spirited display that oozed belief.

West Ham's woes might continue for a while yet.

VIEW FROM THE DUGOUT

West Ham manager Manuel Pellegrini: "It's the second game at home; we lost the first one against Bournemouth so of course we must win this one. "We knew before we started the season we would have tough fixtures, we need points at home. "We made mistakes in the last home game but now we cannot allow to repeat that."

Wolves head coach Nuno Espirito Santo: "There's no ideal opponent, you cannot choose, you have to adapt, face them, stay humble and fight for each ball. "We're going to go with our idea, respect West Ham and play the game."

LAWRO'S PREDICTION

West Ham have frightened me defensively - and if the back door has not got a lock on it you have a problem. Wolves' goal against Manchester City shouldn't have happened, but it was a good point for them. Prediction: 2-0

MATCH FACTS Head-to-head

This will be their first Premier League meeting since West Ham won 2-0 at Upton Park on New Year's Day 2011. Wolves also lost at West Ham in an FA Cup tie in January 2016. Their only victory in the past nine visits came in the Premier League in March 2010 (D2, L6).

West Ham United The Hammers have only once lost their opening four league matches of a season, in 2010-11 under Avram Grant. West Ham are in danger of losing three successive Premier League home games against promoted sides for the first time. They were beaten by Brighton and Newcastle last season. They have only won one of their past five Premier League home fixtures - against Everton on the final day of the 2017-18 campaign. Marko Arnautovic has scored or set up 14 league goals in 2018, eight more than any other Hammers player. The Austrian has eight goals and six assists.

Wolverhampton Wanderers Wolves are on a club record run of 17 consecutive top-flight matches without a win since beating Queens Park Rangers in February 2012. They haven't won any of the past eight Premier League games in which they scored first (D2, L6). Nuno Espirito Santo's side could go five successive league matches without keeping a clean sheet for the first time in 18 months. Wolves recorded the Championship's highest shot conversion rate of 13.5% last season but they have only converted three of their 31 attempts on goal in 2018-19, scoring just once from open play.

EFL (Carabao Cup)  2nd round  Sheffield Wednesday 0 Wolves 2 Bonatini (53'), Hélder Costa (85' pen)

HT 0-0

Premier League side Wolves reached the third round of the Carabao Cup for the fourth successive season with victory at Sheffield Wednesday.  Leo Bonatini scored the opener, firing home Adama Traore's cross from 12 yards for his first goal since December.

Steven Fletcher and Fernando Forestieri both forced saves from John Ruddy as the Owls sought an equaliser. But Helder Costa sealed Wolves' win from the penalty spot after he had been brought down by Morgan Fox.

Victory against a Sheffield Wednesday side that changed their entire starting XI from Saturday's Championship win over Ipswich was Wolves' first of the season following two draws and a defeat in their first three top-flight games.  Head coach Nuno Espirito Santo handed a debut to Belgium international Leander Dendoncker in defence following his arrival on loan from Anderlecht and a first start for £18m record signing Traore. They were among nine changes from Saturday's draw with Manchester City, but he saw his side struggle to create openings in an even first half. They picked up the pace after the break and deservedly took the lead when Traore outpaced Fox down the right and his pull-back deflected off a defender into the path of Bonatini, who netted for the first time since scoring the winner at Birmingham last season.  Morgan Gibbs-White went close to doubling Wolves' lead but his shot from 25 yards hit the post and bounced wide before the Owls threatened a fightback. Fletcher saw his overhead kick brilliantly tipped away by Ruddy, who then palmed aside Forestieri's free-kick shortly afterwards. But Wolves' progress into the third round was assured when substitute Costa was tripped in the box by Fox and sent Joe Wildsmith the wrong way from the spot from the resulting penalty.

SAT 25 AUG 2018 Wolves 1 Boly (57') Manchester City 1 Laporte (69') HT 0-0

Wolverhampton Wanderers secured a hard-earned draw against Manchester City to take the first points off the Premier League champions in an enthralling encounter at Molineux.  Pep Guardiola's side came here on the back of convincing victories at Arsenal and at home to Huddersfield Town - but were given a severe test by the team who won the Championship last season.  In an eventful match, City hit the post twice in the first half - first, through Sergio Aguero and and then when Wolves keeper Rui Patricio brilliantly turned Raheem Sterling's rising 25-yard drive onto the bar. Wolves striker Raul Jimenez also had a goal ruled out for offside.  The hosts took the lead in controversial fashion after 57 minutes when defender Willy Boly's attempted diving header went in off his hand from Joao Moutinho's free-kick.  City had appeals for a penalty turned away by referee Martin Atkinson after Ruben Neves' challenge on David Silva, but drew level in the 69th minute when Aymeric Laporte scored his first goal for the club - a towering header from Ilkay Gundogan's free-kick. Both sides had opportunities to win it in the closing stages, with City almost snatching three points when Aguero's free-kick glanced off the bar with virtually the last kick of the game. Aymeric Laporte's header rescued Manchester City a draw against newly promoted Wolves as the visitors' 100% winning start to their Premier League title defence came to an end at Molineux.  Laporte's first goal for the club, from a smart Ilkay Gundogan cross, cancelled out Willy Boly's controversial opener. The Wolves defender had appeared to help Joao Moutinho's inswinging delivery into the net with his arm as he put the hosts ahead 12 after the break.  Raul Jimenez thought he had given the hosts the lead before half-time, only to be flagged offside.  City had hit the woodwork twice in quick succession the first half - first, Sergio Aguero fired against a post before keeper Rui Patricio tipped Raheem Sterling's long-range half-volley onto the crossbar Aguero then hit the bar with a free-kick in stoppage time.  Wolves remain without a win since returning to the top flight, having drawn with Everton on the opening day and lost at Leicester last week.

TEAM NEWS

Wolves wing-back Matt Doherty is expected to be fit despite being forced off with an injury against Leicester.  Club record signing Adama Traore could make his first start after impressing as a substitute last weekend.

Manchester City fielded a 3-5-2 system last week, using Bernardo Silva as a wing-back, and must decide whether to deploy a similarly attacking line-up. Back-up goalkeeper Claudio Bravo is set for a lengthy absence after tearing his Achilles tendon. In response, City have recalled Montenegrin Aro Muric, 19, from a loan spell at NAC Breda. Either Muric or 20-year-old Daniel Grimshaw will be on the substitute's bench at Molineux

MOTD COMMENTATOR'S NOTES

@SteveBowercomm: The last time Wolves won a Premier League match was back in February 2012, in a season which Manchester City ended as champions. City then struggled to mount a challenge to retain their title the following season. It's a gentle reminder to Wolves of how things have changed since their last stay in the top flight. Pep Guardiola's team are everyone's benchmark and, especially for the new boys, they are the ultimate challenge. Last season's Championship winners have had plenty of encouragement in their two games so far. But they know the standards needed to get anything against last season's record breakers, who have slipped straight into gear as if they had never been away.

VIEW FROM THE DUGOUT

Wolves head coach Nuno Espirito Santo: "We don't know how to play another way. We will not change because we want to build something.  It's important we keep doing the same thing we train to do as we want to achieve. Adapt, of course, because you are facing a good team, but don't change. When you build something you have to truly believe in what you're doing."

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola: "Wolves destroyed the Championship. They had an incredible season. They play attractive football and attack with good players. We knew how tough it would be last season in the Carabao Cup and it was."

LAWRO'S PREDICTION

I am going for a comprehensive City win but it is not games like this that are going to decide whether Wolves' season is a success. These fixtures are part of the learning process. There is not too much to be concerned about so far. Prediction: 0-3

Manchester City have won their last seven Premier League away games

MATCH FACTS

Head-to-head

Wolves' first ever Premier League win came against Manchester City in October 2003, courtesy of a Colin Cameron header at Molineux. They also beat City 2-1 at home in 2010, but those are their only victories in eight Premier League games against the Blues (W2, D1, L5). The sides drew 0-0 in the Carabao Cup last October, with City eventually going through at the Etihad Stadium on penalties.

Wolves were one of only two teams that City failed to score against last season, along with Wigan Athletic (who beat Pep Guardiola's side 1-0 in the FA Cup).

Wolverhampton Wanderers

Wolves could set a club record on Saturday of 17 top-flight games without a victory. Their last Premier League win came at QPR on 4 February 2012. They lost just two games at Molineux last season, the most recent of which was a 2-0 defeat by Cardiff in January. The last four winners of the Championship have avoided relegation from the Premier League the following season.

Manchester City

Pep Guardiola's side have won their last seven Premier League away games, scoring 18 goals and conceding just three. Raheem Sterling has been directly involved in seven of those goals, scoring three and setting up four. City last dropped top-flight points on their travels in a 1-1 draw at Burnley on 3 February. Their only defeat in the past 29 Premier League games against newly-promoted teams came at Burnley in 2015, while they are unbeaten in 12 such fixtures under Pep Guardiola (W9, D3). Sergio Aguero has failed to score in his last six Premier League away games since netting in a 4-0 win at Swansea on 13 December. Vincent Kompany is one short of 250 Premier League appearances, while David Silva's next goal will be his 50th in the division.

02 A Sat 18 Aug 15:00 Leicester City 2 Doherty (29'  og), Maddison (45' ), Vardy (Dismissed 66' ) Wolves 0

HT 2-0

Jamie Vardy was sent off after James Maddison scored on his home debut as Leicester held on with 10 men to beat Wolves at the King Power Stadium.  Vardy, who started the game after scoring as a substitute in the Foxes' Premier League opener against Manchester United, was dismissed on 66 minutes for a reckless challenge on Matt Doherty. Leicester already led by two goals at that point - Doherty inadvertently setting them on their way with an own goal he knew little about as he headed home a Marc Albrighton cross which took a flick off Conor Coady. Maddison, a £20m signing from Norwich, scored the second on the stroke of half-time with a well-placed finish from the edge of the area after referee Mike Dean allowed play to continue following a foul on Ricardo Pereira. Wolves had started the game strongly but failed to make the most of their opportunities, Joao Moutinho striking the crossbar with Kasper  Schmeichel beaten and Raul Jimenez hitting the post following a sharp turn. And Nuno Espirito Santo's side, for whom club record signing Adama Traore came on at half-time, could not capitalise on their extra man after Vardy's dismissal as their wait for a first Premier League victory since February 2012 goes  on. Victory should relieve some pressure on Leicester manager Claude Puel, who according to reports had been given two games to save his job.

Plenty of positives for Puel

Leicester began the season with an opening-day defeat at Old Trafford which, taken in isolation, should not have prompted too many questions about Puel's position.  However, the Frenchman was indeed quizzed about his future this week, saying "speculation from outside the club is not my concern". And with his side having won just one of their previous eight matches in the Premier League - losing six - this victory is an important one.  Puel made four changes to his side, giving Jonny Evans his debut following a £3.5m move from West Brom. A clean sheet - despite Wolves starting both halves brightly - suggests there is plenty of potential in the 30-year-old's central-defensive partnership with Harry Maguire.  Maddison, another summer arrival, again impressed with an authoritative performance, rounded off neatly with his first goal for the club. The 21-year-old grew in confidence with each minute that passed, and his composed finish from the edge of the area showed a maturity evident throughout much of his game.  But the loss of England international Vardy may hurt Leicester - though they closed this game out in a professional manner, it remains to be seen how they will cope in his absence through suspension.

Impressive Traore not enough for Wolves

Nuno's side began the season with plenty of optimism after a number of notable signings, including the £18m signing of Traore from Middlesbrough.  The Spaniard, who began his career at Barcelona, started on the bench but was introduced at half-time as Nuno sought a way back into the match.  The 22-year-old, who completed 132 more dribbles than any other player in the Championship last season, showed glimpses of his ability with signature surging runs that are sure to trouble top-flight defenders. Prior to his introduction, Wolves had made a lively start, matching the tempo of their entertaining draw with Everton in their first Premier League match since 2012. Schmeichel's goal frame was battered by Moutinho and Jimenez, and Leicester's defence was stretched, but the visitors could not find the net.  This was a lesson in taking your chances - and while they fought back twice against 10-man Everton last weekend, they could not take full advantage of a similar situation here.  But Wolves looked a threat throughout and will certainly offer plenty of entertainment in the Premier League this season.

Leicester will again be without Japanese forward Shinji Okazaki, who only recently resumed training after a post-World Cup break. Midfielder Matty James is out with a Achilles injury, while new signing Caglar Soyuncu is not match fit.

Wolves could hand a debut to club-record signing Adama Traore, but Belgian midfielder Leander Dendoncker will not be included.  Winger Ivan Cavaleiro remains sidelined by a troublesome back issue.

How did the Premier League debutants look on the opening weekend?

MOTD COMMENTATOR'S NOTES

@Guymowbray: With Jamie Vardy having signed a new contract, Harry Maguire about to, and a fresh new feel to the squad, all should be well in Leicester's world - shouldn't it?   Even in defeat at Manchester United last week there were signs that they're set for a decent season, with or without Claude Puel. Another loss in this one would only increase the chatter about his future, whether that's equitable or not.  I think the Foxes will secure another top-half finish, and that Wolves won't be far behind.  They've already served up one entertaining game on their Premier League return, and I can foresee something similar here.

VIEW FROM THE DUGOUT

Leicester City manager Claude Puel on his future: "I will be happy for my successor, he will have a good squad. My job is to build something with Leicester to continue to develop this club. Our work since the beginning of pre-season is interesting for the future."

Wolves head coach Nuno Espirito Santo: "Honestly, we believe there is no big change [going from the Championship to Premier League]. But we have to think about ourselves and prove to ourselves that we deserve to be here.  Our routines are the same. But we have to be better than we were last season."

LAWRO'S PREDICTION

Leicester lost to Manchester United in their opening game but they put in a decent performance. Wolves came from behind twice to draw with Everton last week and this is another big test for them. I'm expecting the Foxes to make a lot of chances.

Prediction: 2-1

Wolves midfielder Ruben Neves has scored seven league goals from outside the penalty box since the start of last season

MATCH FACTS

Head-to-head: This is only the third Premier League meeting between Leicester and Wolves and the first since a 0-0 draw in February 2004 at the King Power Stadium.  Leicester haven't beaten Wolves in the top flight since a 5-1 win at Filbert Street in December 1983 - Gary Lineker was among the scorers for the Foxes.  Wolves' last top-flight win at Leicester was a 2-1 victory in December 1971. The Foxes have only won three of the last 14 league and cup meetings between the clubs (D7, L4). The last meeting between the sides, in January 2013, ended in a 2-1 victory for Leicester.

Leicester City

Leicester's first home game last season was also against a newly-promoted side - they beat Brighton 2-0. The Foxes have only recorded one victory in their last eight Premier League games (D1, L6).  They've also won just one of their last seven top-flight home games (D4, L2). That was May's 3-1 victory over Arsenal.  Leicester could lose their opening two Premier League games for just the third time, after 1994-95 and 2001-02. They were relegated in both of those seasons.

Jamie Vardy's next home goal with be his 50th at the King Power Stadium.

Wolverhampton Wanderers

Their only victory in the last 25 Premier League games was a 2-1 away win at QPR in February 2012 (D9, L15). Wolves could equal a club record of 16 top-flight games without a win, set in 1970.

Wolves' record league win came against Leicester, in a 10-1 victory in Division One in April 1938.

Last weekend Ruben Neves became the first player to score and assist on his Premier League debut since Chelsea's Alvaro Morata, 12 months earlier.

Wolves head coach Nuno Espirito Santo was in charge of Porto when they faced Leicester in the Champions League group stage in 2016. His side lost 1-0 at the King Power Stadium but won 5-0 at home.

01 H Sat 11 Aug 17:30  D 2-2 Everton  Live on BT

Wolves 2 Neves (44'), Jiménez (80') Everton 2 Richarlison (17', 67'), Jagielka (Dismissed at  40') HT 1-1

Everton manager Marco Silva said he "doesn't have doubts" about Richarlison after the £50m summer signing scored twice on his debut in an entertaining draw at Premier League newcomers Wolves. The Toffees - reduced to 10 men at the end of the first half when Phil Jagielka was sent off for a dangerous challenge on Diogo Jota - were left frustrated as Wolves twice fought back to claim a point. The signing of Brazilian winger Richarlison raised eyebrows in the summer, particularly since he endured a run of 28 games without a goal in 2017-18, last finding the net in November. But he repaid his manager's faith when he stabbed home his first from close range, before stroking in a delightful second to restore the lead.  Ruben Neves' free kick - from the tackle which saw Jagielka sent off - had brought Wolves level, and they eventually rescued a point when on-loan Benfica forward Raul Jimenez buried a header from Neves' cross with 10 minutes remaining.

New Everton boss Marco Silva told BBC Sport: "I don't have doubts. Even when Richarlison doesn't score he works really hard to help his team. I'm sure the fans will be proud of him.  He did very well. He worked hard, which is what I expect from him." Richarlison said he would remember the day for "the rest of my life" Silva was sacked by Watford in January with the Hornets blaming Everton's interest for a downturn in form. The Toffees finally got their man this summer after dismissing Allardyce. The Portuguese's first signing was Richarlison from his former club and much was made about the fee. But it looks to be a shrewd move by Silva to link up again with the 21-year-old, who displayed his qualities inside and outside the box. Playing from the left, he posed a dangerous threat to Wolves wing-back Matt Doherty and his 13 sprints during his 86 minutes on the pitch was bettered only by team-mate Seamus Coleman (15

). Richarlison opened the scoring with an opportunistic strike as Wolves failed to clear a Leighton Baines free-kick into the box, while his second was a measured finish into the far corner. He also came close to making a goal when his knockdown fell nicely in the box for Theo Walcott, but the  former Arsenal man's scuffed shot failed to threaten Rui Patricio. Richarlison added: "I have to thank my colleagues because we had to run double with one player less, so it is a special day for me."  Everton would have been in a better position to claim all three points had Jagielka not been dismissed after losing control of the ball deep in his own half and catching Jota on the shin in trying recover possession. "Phil Jagielka's red card was a harsh decision," said Silva. "Not only the red card but they scored from the free-kick."

Wolves won the Championship with ease last season, claiming 99 points as they returned to the top flight for the first time since the 2011-12 campaign, when they finished bottom. They spent big money in the summer on eight recruits, helped by agent Jorge Mendes' contacts, including the signings of former Sporting Lisbon goalkeeper Patricio and international team-mate Joao Moutinho from Monaco. In all, manager Nuno Espirito Santo fielded five of his Portuguese compatriots - a Premier League record - and he will be pleased by the fighting spirit shown by his team. Although they struggled to impose themselves on the game early on, Wolves battled back to earn a point on a day when fellow promoted sides Fulham and Cardiff went down to 2-0 defeats. Nuno said: "We have character because we came back from a goal down twice, which is not easy. Today taught me that we can react to goals but we have a lot to improve. We have always known we have quality but we are in a growing process. It was the first time for a lot of us in the Premier League but we will get better and better." Ex-Porto captain Neves was one of the best players in the Championship last season and he impressed on his step up by scoring one goal and making the other. He looked comfortable in possession too - his 111 touches on the ball and 93 passes were more than any other player on the pitch - and he contributed defensively by winning the ball back six times. Neves said: "I am very happy to help the team achieve a point but we want to win games, mainly at home." Wolves have been tipped by many pundits to claim a top-half finish this season and they could well achieve that target after making a promising start to the new campaign.

Jagielka challenge 'endangered' Jota BBC Match of the Day pundit Alan Shearer I thought it [Phil Jagielka's red card] was the correct decision. It's a poor touch he knows he's in trouble. It's endangered Diogo Jota and there's not too much argument. He uses excessive force and he's out of control. It's a straight leg and a red card. Whether you agree with the laws or not, that's the law.

Man of the match - Ruben Neves (Wolves).  Could Neves do it in the Premier League? He sure can. A brilliant all-round performance, which included a stunning free-kick

Wolves player's long wait - the stats Wolves are now seven league matches without a victory against Everton (D5 L2) since a 2-1 win in May 2004. Everton have drawn their past three opening day Premier League matches against newly promoted sides, also doing so in 2014-15 against Leicester City and 2015-16 against Watford - all finished 2-2. Richarlison found the net with his first two shots in the Premier League for Everton, having failed to score with any of his last 53 shots as a Watford player. Since the start of last season, Wolves midfielder Ruben Neves has scored more goals from outside the box than any other player in the top four tiers of English league football (seven). Everton's red card was their 90th in the Premier League - more than any other side.
