Substitute Pedro Neto scored a valuable away goal for Wolves as they drew with 10-man Olympiakos in their Europa League last-16 tie played behind closed doors over coronavirus concerns.  The Premier League side, who wanted the game postponed, faced 10 men from the 28th minute after last-man Ruben Semedo was sent off for fouling Diogo Jota. But Wolves laboured and went behind when Youssef El Arabi tapped home. Neto equalised with a low driven free-kick that took a deflection.

Wolves had largely underwhelmed inside the eerie Karaiskakis Stadium and their only other clear-cut chance was when Raul Jimenez's angled strike struck the face of goalkeeper Jose Sa.  The second leg is next Thursday, but whether it is played depends on Uefa's decision over whether to cancel its club competitions because of the increasing threat of coronavirus. If it does go ahead Wolves will need to be in a better frame of mind. They did not want to play this fixture and manager Nuno Espirito Santo said it was "absurd" it proceeded despite concerns over the pandemic. Some of the concerns were prompted by the news Evangelos Marinakis, owner of the Greek club as well as Nottingham Forest, had contracted the virus this week. However, no other Olympiakos players and staff tested positive. The unusual build-up may have played on the minds of the players during the opening quarter - or it could have been the atmosphere inside the Karaiskakis Stadium, which was like that of a practice match.

Neto comes to Wolves' rescue Semedo's sending off, after bringing down Jota on the edge of the area, should have sparked the Midlands club into life as the match headed towards half-time. But save for winger Adama Traore, whose livelier efforts were ultimately fruitless, no Wolves player raised their game. The introduction of Neto at half-time failed to have an immediate effect; instead nine minutes after the restart, El Arabi, the bane of Arsenal, fired in after good work by Guilherme in the area. The Greek side looked comfortable until the 67th minute when Neto drove in a free-kick that beat Sa thanks to a deflection off Andreas Bouchalakis. At 20 years and three days, the Portuguese forward became the club's youngest goalscorer in major European competition since Steve Daley netted against Ferencvaros in the Uefa Cup in April 1972. The rest of the match was as uneventful as the first quarter and Nuno's side now face a wait to find out if their Europa League journey, which started in July, will continue.

'It was not the best game to watch for sure' - reaction Wolves boss Nuno Espirito Santo speaking to BT Sport: "It stays with me because I have to work on it and analyse it. The beginning of the game was strange. The energy levels were missing... someone to push. It was not a very good game of football. We had control and possession of the ball but didn't imbalance them with chances. It was not the best game to watch for sure." On whether the players were fully focused: "Let's be fair to the players and everybody with what's happening. During the game they were focused. Olympiakos is a very good team. "Now we are going to think about West Ham. We keep on working. Now we have West Ham and hopefully next Thursday we play again. We have a long way to go. A lot of matches. So tough, so tough. The schedule is very tight."

El Arabi on song again in Europe - statsWolves have lost just one of their eight Europa League away games this season including qualifiers (W5 D2), a 2-3 defeat at Espanyol in the last round. Including qualifiers, Olympiakos have lost just two of their last 10 home games in all European competition against English sides (W5 D3), with both defeats coming against Arsenal. Wolves have conceded the first goal in eight of their last nine away games in all competitions, with the only exception during this run being a goalless draw at Manchester United in February. El-Arabi has scored in four of his last five appearances for Olympiakos in Europe (four goals - Europa League and Champions League combined). No Premier League side has seen their opponents receive more red cards in all competitions this season than Wolves (six - level with Aston Villa). Semedo was sent off in the 28th minute - the fifth-fastest red card to be shown in the Europa League this season.

Wolves manager Nuno Espirito Santo (right) says it would be better for the match to be postponed

Wolves defender Conor Coady says he is concerned about his family's health as his team prepare to play at Olympiakos in the Europa League having wanted the game postponed because of coronavirus.  Thursday's last-16 first-leg match will be played in the absence of supporters because of the spread of the virus.  "You go home to your wives and kids after the game so that's the priority," Coady said. "We need to make sure it's right when we're going home."

Uefa, European football's governing body, rejected the Premier League side's request to postpone the game on Wednesday. Wolves said they were not only concerned about their own players and staff but also those of Olympiakos, whose owner Evangelos Marinakis tested positive for coronavirus. Marinakis, who also owns Nottingham Forest, met a number of Arsenal players when the club hosted the Greek side in a Europa League match two weeks ago. As a consequence, some Gunners players are in self-isolation and Wednesday's Premier League game against Manchester City was postponed.  Many European club competition fixtures are to be played behind closed doors this week, while the Europa League fixtures between Sevilla and Roma, and Inter Milan and Getafe, have been postponed.  Coady, 27, added: "We've seen the game postponed between City and Arsenal but as players there's not a lot we can do.  All we can do is train, prepare and listen to our manager and play tomorrow [Thursday] night.  We're ready to play. We've looked at it and a lot of people have spoken, we've read a lot of things and seen a lot of things but listen, we're professional footballers."   Wolves boss Nuno Espirito Santo added: "We have all the insurance in terms of health situations and we are OK. It's just the fact that we love to compete in a normal situation."

Wolves say Olympiakos Europa League tie is 'unnecessary risk'  "I think it will be better for the competition, for the tie [for the game to be postponed]. Nuno added that his players will not train at the Karaiskakis Stadium in the build-up to the match.

MATCH FACTS

This will be the first competitive meeting between Olympiakos and Wolves. English sides have been eliminated from both of their last two knockout ties against Olympiakos in European competition (Burnley in 2018-19 Europa League play-offs and Arsenal in the previous round).

Wolves have never travelled to face Greek opposition in any competition. However, including play-offs this season, Wolves have won more away games in their seven matches this campaign (five) than they managed across their 16 European away days beforehand (W4 D4 L8).

Olympiakos are looking to become the first side to eliminate English opposition in back-to-back knockout rounds in a single season in major European competition since Bayern Munich beat Arsenal (last 16) and Manchester United (quarter-final) in the 2013-14 Champions League.

Heading into the last 16 of this season's Europa League, only Basel (six) have won more matches in the competition than Wolves (five), while no side has netted more goals than the English side (17 - level with Sporting Braga).

Wolves striker Diogo Jota is looking to become the first player in major Uefa competition (Uefa Cup/Europa League, European Cup/Champions League, Cup Winners' Cup) to score a hat-trick in three successive appearances. The last player to net three separate trebles in the same Europa League campaign was Radamel Falcao in 2010-11 for FC Porto.

Wolves moved up to fifth in the Premier League with a dull goalless draw against out-of-form Brighton. There was only one shot in each half at Molineux, with Brighton's Davy Propper drawing a routine save from Rui Patricio from distance.  Wolves' Raul Jimenez hit a shot on the turn straight at Mat Ryan with 15 minutes to go. Leander Dendoncker went close to winning the game for Wolves late on when he shot over the crossbar. Lacklustre Wolves miss their chance?

Wolves 0-0 Brighton: Nuno says Wolves "have to improve" for European trip to Olympiakos  Wolves did not look their usual fluid self, although boss Nuno Espirito Santo denied that it was an indication of fatigue in their 47th game of the season. Only League One sides Oxford and Portsmouth have played more in England.  Wolves would have gone fourth with victory, but fifth place could still yield a Champions League spot if Manchester City do not win an appeal against their two-year European expulsion. Most of Wolves' chances were from distance, with Ruben Neves shooting over on a couple of occasions and Raul Jimenez poking a shot wide. Jimenez had one of their best chances of the game with a fine volley from Willy Boly's long pass but it hit the stanchion behind the goal. They looked brighter when Adama Traore, who dislocated a shoulder in last weekend's win at Tottenham, came on in the second half. He had a hand in their only effort on target.  Traore ran down the right and found substitute Daniel Podence. His effort was blocked by Lewis Dunk and the loose ball fell to Jimenez, whose shot took a slight nick off Adam Webster and Ryan saved.  Wolves - who have only beaten Brighton four times in 32 league meetings - pushed for a late goal but none came, with Jimenez laying the ball off for Dendoncker to shoot over.  

Brighton buoyed but search for win goes on - Wolves 0-0 Brighton: Seagulls were "terrific" at Molineux - Graham Potter This could yet prove a crucial point for Brighton, who are the only team left in the top four divisions not to win this year. This was their 10th attempt, drawing six and losing four.  Graham Potter's side were well organised and kept their first clean sheet since that most recent win, 2-0 against Bournemouth on 28 December. They will need to match that resilience in their next five games, four of which are against Arsenal, Manchester United, Liverpool and Manchester City. Propper's shot from 25 yards was their only effort on goal, but they had several other chances. Yves Bissouma was especially bright with three of their four shots off target. Attacking midfielder Alexis Mac Allister made his debut in the second half - the Argentina international joined Albion in January 2019 but has spent loan spells with Argentinos Juniors and Boca Juniors. The 21-year-old was lively, with several dangerous set-pieces causing concern for Wolves. The visitors spent the latter stages pushing for a goal but struggled to create a clear-cut chance.

'All the games in this league are quite brutal' - manager reaction  Wolves boss Nuno Espirito Santo told BBC Match of the Day: "We didn't perform so well, like we wanted. It was a tough game against a very good team. They were organised, but so were we. It was a game of not too many chances. It's about where we came from. We started three years ago and we keep on building, trying always to sustain the level of performance. I think today we didn't, and we have to improve for the next one."

Brighton manager Graham Potter told MOTD: "It was important for us to keep a clean sheet. We took part in a game against a team with a lot of dangerous players, but we restricted them to not too many clear-cut chances. We did well. Defensively we're really pleased. It was a collective effort. With the quality they have they can put you in dangerous places. We took part in the game. We tried to play and attack when we could. We had opportunities but it wasn't to be. We move forward really positively with a clean sheet - we hadn't had one for a while. All the games in this league are quite brutal. We just need to keep working, fighting and preparing for the next game."

Wolves winger Adama Traore could feature on Saturday despite sustaining a dislocated shoulder in the win at Tottenham last weekend. Injured pair Jonny Otto and Morgan Gibbs-White have both been ruled out. Brighton & Hove Albion welcome back defender Shane Duffy, who missed the defeat against Crystal Palace for family reasons. Midfielder Dale Stephens, who has not featured since 1 February, is available after recovering from a groin injury.

Jonathan Pearce: All Premier League clubs now invest millions in data analysis. Number crunching improves preparation. But it can't win matches. That's down to adrenaline, athletic sinews, heart and utter belief in the manager.  Wolves have all of that. Nuno Espirito Santo has a real aura on the touchline. Their football has flowed gloriously despite a demanding fixture list. He has played to their strengths.

I worry that Brighton have tried to change their DNA too quickly. The defensive protection of last season has gone. Passing football won't keep them up unless they can score. Too many fans I spoke too after the Crystal Palace defeat fear the worst.  But football is fickle. Brighton are Wolves' bogey team. On paper it has to be a home win. You never know!

Brighton need a win to halt their slide towards the drop zone, but I just don't see them having enough of the ball to cause Wolves problems. Prediction: 2-0

Wolverhampton Wanderers are looking to secure three consecutive Premier League victories for the first time since May 2019. The Seagulls had 24 attempts on goal against Crystal Palace last weekend, their highest tally in a Premier League game.
